I found this plant in the database: , but it is not E. setosa. The rosette is too loose and the leaves to narrow and oblanceolate.

This has the description of E. setosa: https://www.crassulaceae.ch/de...
I would like to hear others' opinions about the subject. Smiling

I'm not all that familiar with Echeveria but that database listing is for the cultivar 'Arrow Shaped' which I'm assuming is due to the leaf shape of the particular cultivar?

This is the database listing for the straight species Mexican Firecracker (Echeveria setosa)

I am no expert but I think it is a setosa. Or to be accurate, some of the images on the database page match a plant that I call setosa.

For comparison here is a range of setosas, including 4 of the 5 named varieties, with that arrow plant at the top left (believe it or not I have a few others).

It becomes a nice little bush when given time and space. I need to get a picture of my biggest clump when it flowers next time. Whether or not this is actually the cultivar called 'Arrow' or 'Arrow Shaped' I am not certain. Some of the images on the net would seem to suggest that arrow name has been applied to a range of plants in the ballpark.

The flowers on my plant match setosa, but I suppose the plant could be a hybrid, something along the lines of Set-Oliver. The database entry for 'Arrow Shaped' does have at least one impostor, which I will move along shortly.

Big appressed sepals = pulvinata in the mix. Looks like 'Doris Taylor' to me.

I am not an expert either, but I think it is very likely a hybrid (very probably 'Set-Oliver').
If you compare the plant to the Crassulaceae network pages on 'Set-Oliver' and setosa, I think you will find that the growth habit is much more similar to 'Set-Oliver' than setosa. There are some big similarities between the flower, sepals, and the general rosette.

Baja's experience of this plant forming a bush and the pictures of this plant in the database showing a stem-forming plant also suggests that this plant is a hybrid. E. setosa is a clump forming plant that grows low to the ground. This plant clearly has a more upright growth habit. This suggests that this plant has genetics from an upright parent, probably E. harmsii or E. pulvinata.

Let us look at a few pictures for comparison:
This is the questionable setosa from the database. Notice how it has very upright growth.

This is 'Set-Oliver' from the web. Notice the similarities in leaf shape.

This is harmsii from the database. Notice the similarities in color.

This is the flower of the questionable setosa in the database.

This is the flower of 'Set-Oliver'

Lastly let us compare the rosette shape of the questionable setosa and 'Sets-Oliver'.

E. 'Sets-Oliver'.

This is just my opinion. I will leave it to the moderators to do as they see fit. Smiling

Let me think about this some more. I'm not sure if 'Arrow Shaped' is another name for 'Set-Oliver'. Maybe it is. Maybe it doesn't apply to all plants on that page.

I used to have 'Set-Oliver', or at least a plant with that label matching the descriptions I've read. It was different in a few ways from the hairy plant I have been calling 'Arrow Shaped' (which was a random gift cutting from the neighbor). It had thinner leaves, thicker and more naked stems, fewer branches, redder flowers. So maybe there is more than one hybrid in the vicinity, but I agree the stemminess is not a setosa trait. And I also see different plants here (ie. these are not the same cultivar, if I had to guess)

The flowers on my plant are two-toned (orangey red/yellow), sideways at anthesis, and relatively crowded at the end of inflorescences. I need to take a better close up picture to document what my brain foggily recalls.

I guess the most conservative course would be to move the images in question to the genus entry if you don't think any of them are setosa, because I'm not confident they all correspond to 'Set-Oliver', or are all the same plant. I'm also having trouble finding the name 'Arrow Shaped' in any reputable source for names in this genus.

That would be my preferred choice as well. I am definitely not suggesting that all the plants are 'Sets-Oliver'. I was simply using 'Sets-Oliver' and its related species to illustrate that 'Arrow Shape' resembles setosa hybrids rather than the pure species. Smiling

This thread relates to one or more images you have uploaded to the entry for this cultivar.

If anybody has input or feedback, please speak up. Should this database entry remain as is? Does this name have any sort of documentation or history? Would you mind if your images went into the genus entry for Echeveria instead?

Thank You!

Thank you for the work put into working at clearing this up.
I am okay with my photos being moved if that is what is needed.
Sure gets confusing when the nurseries have incorrect names on plants.
Thank you again. Smiling

Thank you all for weighing in on this. I will move these images to the genus entry, now that some time has elapsed for folks to respond. I will do this in the next couple of days, lots going on here now.
