I planted some bareroot Meidiland roses last spring. They had a nice year, lots of growth and decent flowering. We had a mostly mild start to winter but it has been below freezing now for over a week, with lows in the teens. The roses have still not dropped about half of their leaves which I've never seen before on any other my other roses. Most of the leaves are still green and look normal, some are yellow with black spots. I was googling this and read in a few places that they should be removed or "burned" off by putting horticultural oil on them on a sunny day. Any thoughts?

I would leave them alone. If they need to drop the leaves, they will.

I agree with Porkpal. The rose "knows" what it needs and responds to conditions as it should. If the leaves are still green, they are feeding the plant. Those turning yellow and spotting, will fall when they are supposed to. The yellowing is the plant sucking the chlorophyll out of them to recycle into new growth once the conditions support its growth. If they yellow and or spot, you will know the plant is recycling that chlorophyll in preparations to push new growth in spring. Until then, let it do what the conditions it is experiencing "tell" it to do. It ain't broke and doesn't need "fixing".
