Looking good j. I tried a half dozen Abyssinian glads in bright shade but no sign of scapes yet.

How have your summer temps been? We've had a lot of cooler than normal nights. Some plants shrug it off while others slow way down.

July was one of the coolest on record, August has been the same so far. Plenty of rain as well. The corn here is 9 feet tall, a record crop is expected.
Abyssinians get a good dose of sun where they are, probably 3/4ths of the day, maybe more.

Pineapple lilies - dwarf one and Oakhurst setting to set seed, the common green/white fl one in full bloom, but most significantly, the Giant Eucomis is starting to bloom. It being as large as it is opens it's susceptibility quotient to untoward influences considerably, Where once it was striving straight and tall, it now is at about a 45% angle due to two rather rough thunderstorms that ravaged this area last night and today. Pics taken were wanting so will try to get some descent ones in the near future..

White rain lilies opened yesterday.

Awaiting Bessera elegans, shouldn't be far off from bloom. Also awaiting Ornithogalum ’Namib Gold’. The latter pot on a stand got knocked over in a thunderstorm last night (but doesn't look too bad, maybe somewhat disgruntled).

@JMorth, will the dwarf Pineapple lilies come true to seed? I have Leia and it looks like it's setting seeds.

Deebee, not sure. Maybe if there were no other types of Eucomis around they would; Usually when propagating bulbs I use bulb offsets or newly formed baby bulbs. I usually remove spent flowers to re-direct energy back down to the mother bulb.
My dwarf Eucomis is Leia.
Could be an interesting experiment. I've never grown an Eucomis from seed.

Thanks, that's good to know. Maybe I will only let one plant go to seed, especially since this is only my first year with it. About 2 years ago, I grew a couple of sparkling burgundy plants from seeds. They germinated very easily. I basically forgot about them & didn't care for them as I should have. The bulbs are still a little small, and the plants are not thriving. I just repotted and fertilized them a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to keep them growing over the winter and hopefully I'll see a bloom in the next year or two.

Some shots of the summer bulbs I've snapped over the last few weeks, most in the last few days.

Deebie, the Pineapple Lilies in the pic I posted above, are some that I started from seed. They were quite easy, and one of them bloomed the 4th year. For the last few years I've even found seedlings in the ground where the pots sat; the seed survived the winter just fine, but the baby bulbs didn't (and I never get around to digging any up, like I always intend to do, LOL).

That's cool. Hurray! There's hope for mine yet. I ordered the dwarf eucomis 'Leia' this spring, but it bloomed white. I need to get that corrected. I should have paid attention to the watchdog about that company.

Nice pictures Neal, especially pleasing to see some healthy gladiolus posted. I've developed a bad case of thrips.

I'd been blaming the unseasonably cool July temperatures for my failing flowers, wishful thinking for sure. Whistling

Thank goodness for this discussion! Hardly any of the bulbs I moved are doing anything. Man, bulbs are still my fav type of garden plants, (tied with shrubs,) but truly a lesson in patience! THIS was supposed to be the summer they started to come into glory before realizing they'd have to be moved this spring.

Weather has been frustrating too, a 6-week stretch of no rain at all. If none of the Lycoris bloom here soon, I may have a minor come-apart.

Sorry if it sounds like I just came to whine, definitely doing that. Absolutely LOVE the pics too!!

I feel your pain, Tiffany. It's been dry here as well. Rain all around us, but not here. If we did get any, it was a light sprinkle. Just enough moisture to make it extremely humid and stuffy in the summer heat. I always know when there's rain nearby, because my body starts aching. I just wish that a good rain would make the suffering worthwhile. I only live a few miles out of town, but we don't get as much rain as they do. Early this week, I saw red lycoris about to finish blooming on that side of town, but nothing here. They are calling for rain the next 3 days. I'm not holding my breath too long. I just got back from shopping in town where they had a nice shower of rain just before I got to the store. Blinking

We had 9" in one week the week before last. Now it's raining again. I'm worried the daffs I planted last fall are getting too wet now & will rot as the temps. are still 90's. Glare
