Tracey I haven't done any crosses the past couple years, well ok a couple. Just enjoying watching the lilies actually grow this year... no spring frost :*) Kids sure do grow fast, an old cliche`, but so true.Thumb of 2013-07-27/MrDad/65429f

Spectacular lilies!
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

Hi MrDad: What is that lily which appears directly below the handle of the of the storm door (in the photo) of your last post? Did you grow that one from seed?

This one? Hmmm click on the photo to see my circle. Well any way the circled one is 'Carte Blanche' from http://www.thelilygarden.com/p... If you meant the pinkish trumpet one that is an easter lily/oriental hybrid I purchased via Farawayflowers. Don't recall the name right now.Thumb of 2013-07-28/MrDad/c1fc39

Thanks MrDad. It's Carte Blanche--that's the one that caught my eye. Do you like it?

My wife and I go on lily hunts in the more 'well kept' older sections of local cities looking for older cultivars--so I have developed a keen eye for spoting certain lilies--just as I did Carte Clanche in your picture. It's an enjoyable, relaxing adventure; I always say: " A Good Lily is Where You Find It"

4 Lt. pink and 3 whites. The whites are only about half the size of the pinks all on the same plant. This plant was posted previously but not in full bloom. this is a updated photo taken today (just for fun).

Goes to show if you grow enough of these some aberrations are bound to show up. I notice the pink ones also have wavy petals; not so the white ones. Those pink ones are really pretty, a nice soft pink color.

It's kind of short and down/out facing which I find annoying Shrug! The flower itself is snow white, with soft yellow brush strokes & bumps, with a green center on the petals. It is subtle compared to the flashy strong aromatic lilies. I personally wouldn't buy it again since it is hard to see the flowers. After just checking it again I would say staking it would make the flowers more noticeable since it tends to lean.

MrDad: Oh, I like the style of Carte Blanche, MrDad. I Agree though--the stem could be a little stronger.

Anthony: If you see somebody peeking around in your back yard--don't call the police--it's probably just me. Ha Ha.

Connie: Yep, around here, anything is possible! I saw one today with 9 petals.

Moby--they do but they are weak or malformed. Similar to what one might see on some young seedling that is flowering for the first time. Interesting also is that where there is a secondary bud, it is the much larger pink one--the smaller white is the primary.

Carte Blanche comes in handy for hybridizing as it is a tetra. I personally find it pretty, but do wish it was taller.

Nice pink wavy trumpets, favorite color, favorite petal type. Thumbs up

They love my mulch pile--not a care in the world, just enjoying life so much! I guess they think I'm one of their family, too. Thought you'd enjoy.

Rick, these two play all kinds of 'games'--like you say--just like kids. Today they were trying to see who could bunt each other off the pile first. It's amazing--animals must be getting smarter. Sometimes, after my Grand kids get done jumping around on the trampoline, these two will come out and sniff around the trampoline, then go under it and jump up and down, as if to mimic the kids. They had to be watching from a distance to pick that up. I'll try and get a picture of that if the camera's handy. I'm about 50 feet away when I took the photo today, but if I holler at them to GIT GOING, they stand there in puzzlement with a look as if to say: What the heck is wrong with you today?

A couple photos taken by Grand Daughter and Friend Yesterday afternoon. These were taken about a quarter mile or about 5 city blocks south of my place. Two separate storms produced 5 waterspouts. A couple of them reached Level 2 reflectivity on doppler. A waterspout is basically a tornado over water. If it were to move back over land, it would be once again be called a tornado. I'm working at the farm for couple days and missed all the excitement back home. But actually, these waterspouts are quite common here during the Fall season.

Edit Added: Twitpic tweeted by friend Bill Bellis, WFLD WX. Shows classic hook echo and inflow draw. If you're a fisherman, you sure don't want to get caught up in the inflow draw. And, yes, the Coastguard was looking for a missing boater well into the night--last I heard. If this twitpic loads small, you can use tools (the little gear) to increase the size. The storm had moved southeast of us by the time Bill got this image.
