I made this a separate forum, because I believe this will be the next "hot" thing in daylilies. Who knows where these sculpted genes will take us next? It's a blank canvas.

Similar breeding to Sigourney - not 100% positive, but I think it is a sib to Sigourney.

Side view - I love how these are 3 dimensional. Some would say they don't open well, but I have seen a lot of this form, in my garden and especially at Curt Hanson's. They are very consistent.

Thinking outside the box, I can imagine all sorts of forms coming from this type of form.

Hello Everyone!

Dan Hansen has made the most improvements in getting carving and embossing in colors other than yellow from what I have seen. This is his River Ripples an 08 intro.

Judy... that is a super photo of Fad Gadget. I got that one as a seedling, the year before he named it. I crossed it to the seedling I posted at the top of the thread with the petals that stand straight up. But, I can't grow out my seeds anymore, and so the pods ended up just shriveling up. I can't help but make the crosses... I used to give the seeds to Curt to grow, but I made so few crosses last year that I didn't want to bother him with less than 50 seeds.

daylily said:This is one of my seedlings, but it has Hanson on both sides. The petals are pinched so severely, that they stand straight up. If you look closely, you can see the sides of the petals roll completely back, making tunnel like areas under the petals that you can actually stick your finger down in.

Curt named one that is somewhat similar - Mother Upduff, but it is a much smaller flower.

Jules - I love that one - I haven't seen that form before and am going to have to find me some like that now. I love having all different forms in the garden, but usually favor the spiders most.

Mother Upduff is the only one I know of in commerce that does it all the time.

Curt's FLUID ECCENTRICITY does it some of the time, but it also does all sorts of squirrel maneuvers.

I don't have a really great photo of MOTHER UPDUFF... I think I might have somewhere, but not labeled so I can find it quickly. This is the best one I have, and one petal is hung up on a bud.

I am so hoping that Concrete Empire will be really awesome for me because I paid a fortune for it !
Planted last fall, can't wait to see it.
Marryott told me it was a slow increaser however, so not sure how that will go.

Is there a forum or area for daylilies with teeth edging?

This is one I registered as LITTLE BIG EARS. It's a small flower on a miniature plant and has lots of raised tissue coming out of the throat and sometimes along the midribs. I've been hybridizing with it to try to develop tetraploid miniature spiders but it's very slow going. Although it is fertile both ways, the seedpods on it are so small that each contains at most 4 or 5 seeds.

Believe it or not, this is the very same daylily....LITTLE BIG EARS....on a different day. Part of the charm of sculpted daylilies is they often look different on different days....and sometimes you'd swear they were completely different flowers. Here there is so much extra tissue along the midribs, it looks like a double. But it is actually a crested daylily in this picture.

This is another of Curt Hanson's that I really like called RAINBOW MESA. I don't know what you call this when a flower has two raised midribs. Daylilies usually only have one! But it makes it an interesting flower having this bit of textural interest. It's a very different color, actually a blend of several colors, as well. Wonderful flower.

Judy, LITTLE BIG EARS is fantastic! I had heard the name before, but never saw photo of it. It's right up my alley... the more unusual, the better. It would be great to try to cross with the one Curt calls Sigourney's Ugly Sister (garden name - not registered)

Rainbow Mesa has been on my want list for a long time. I envy that you grow it! I remember it in a clump before being lined out for introduction. What a beauty.

I see on the robin that the definitions of different sculpted forms are now in the AHS dictionary, so I will try to get some photos posted with the explanations. I was to busy today to do much here at home, so hopefully will get to the sculpted and spider threads soon with the photos and descriptions.

I have heard the name LITTLE BIG EARS too but I don't remember seeing a pic of it. It is hard to put the new and unusual ones in a certain category. Kinda like the patterned ones.

I am so ready to see blooms AGAIN!

Red Twister!

I thought the Little Big Ears was nice, reminds me of our dog. She is little, but her ears are large and stick straight up.
