There usually is a story behind some of my daylily names!! Some can be told and some can't!!! My nephew had triplets that started kindergarten the year I named RIOT ON THE KINDERGARTEN BUS....Oh, goodness, came you imagine how happy his wife was to have a few free moments! She didn't cry when the bus pulled away like some moms do when their kids start kindergarten. There must have been something in the water because three sets of triplets were on that bus.

And LITTLE BIG EARS was a name my father gave to me when I was a toddler, because I had a way of picking up his rather colorful language and spouting it back at church and other inappropriate moments not knowing what I was saying! My parents had to start spelling things or I would spill all the family secrets! Happy memories!!!

I just love the mental picture that RIOT ON THE KINDERGARTEN BUS conjures up! Although I wouldn't want to actually experience it. I love fun daylily names and I have bought a lot of them just because of a catchy name. Names like CINDERELLA'S DARK SIDE & STUPIDVILLE, USA. Here's one I introduced for Frank Kropf. I named it LAWLESS WOMAN because it has a very LOOSE & open form and she always gives you a seductive peek at that deep green throat.

I have Robin's LAWLESS WOMAN, and it is an incredible plant. I wonder what a cross between it and MICHAEL'S SWORD would produce? To me, the sculpted forms are the best new improvements in daylilies. I also collect the space-agers in iris--their version of crests and flounces.

LAWLESS WOMAN is a great name for that one. That is interesting cresting going on along the midribs. You may get some really fun results crossing it with some crested things and also some big, long petaled unusual forms to display all that "stuff" on a larger surface. Jan Joiner is developing some spidery doubles. It would be fun crossing it with things like that, too. Are you able to make crosses? It looks like the anthers on that flower are stuck in the tissue and it's missing a pistil.

Sometimes it has anthers and a pistil, but not always. That is the challenge of doubles and is one reason I prefer layered doubles. The layered ones have a complete set of privates.

Robin,
I see that you listed LAWLESS WOMAN on the Lily Auction to benefit George Lawrence. So, anyone who saw Robin's photo above and thought "I have got to get this one" - go bid on this flower and help George out at the same time.

Lovely Robin. Great color.

George is a LONG time AHS member. I **think** he was an editor of one of the regional newsletters. He was the contact person for the Bulletin Board for many years. He is a wonderful man, and a great contributor to the world of daylilies. I have had the pleasure of meeting him several years ago. He had the same nerve disease I have a few years ago, in his leg, and it nearly was horrible. He was one of the few who go into remission that have RSD. Anyway, he had an accident about a week ago with a power saw, and it cut off about half of his left arm. Something like this is never easy, and the AHS Robin members are donating plants to the Lily Auction with proceeds going to George.

I really like that patterned applique in ECLAT SIDERAL. It appears to be slightly bitone as well. Interesting when the same trends evolve from various progams. I've been giving a lot of thought lately to how sculpting, pleating, and extra throat tissue can really change patterns to make them more interesting. And how bitones can also enhance the look. Makes you wonder what daylilies will look like 10 years from now, doesn't it?

I've only be really interested in daylilies for about 10 years and can't believe the changes in just that time. Can't begin to imagine what they will be in another 10 years.

Looks like Matton has some beauties. I really like Vestiges. Here's a link to one I hadn't seen before by Owens, P.:
