I wanted to post a photo of Fad Gadget here. I posted it in the June Blooms, but to me, this is a very good representation of sculpted. Curt has the most amazing forms.

I saw this one for several years after he selected it from the seedling bed. I have loved it since I first laid eyes on it.

Curt is really on to something with the new forms he is coming out with. Some people think that they are not opening - but that is not the case. They have a three dimensional quality. The pinching is so intense that it holds part of the petals away from the sepals.

I can't imagine what they will look like when we get this level of pinched throat on a big spidery like Applique, or Bali Watercolor. Will look like fireworks.

Davi posted a photo of this one early on this thread. Notice how consistent it is....

This is Choral Angel, a Reckamp/Klehm, that always has this cupped appearance. From the side the bloom looks like a sitting butterfly. It just started blooming last week. It's a welcome late bloomer.Thumb of 2010-07-28/pastime/4dbb11

This yellow seedling is just the opposite. The blooms are flat as a pancake. Another late bloomer.Thumb of 2010-07-28/pastime/1b15f0

I like this new feature for multiple pictures. No coding and emailing pictures to yourself.

They'll need new homes but I don't think you'd want the ones I want to get rid of. And then again . . . maybe. How far do you live from me?

Christine,
The problem is digging. I have tears in the plantar fascia in the bottoms of both feet so I can't dig. If I find someone to dig them I will be happy to send you some. We'll see how the summer progresses.

Does anyone know how soon you can dig them once the flowers quit blooming? A lot have quit and the stalks are brown.

Daylilies are very forgiving. You can dig them spring, summer and early fall. If you are going to ship some, make sure you wash all the dirt off the roots first, let them dry a bit, cut the foliage back to three or four inches, wrap in newspaper, and ship priority mail on a Monday or Tuesday to make sure they don't sit on a postal truck over the weekend.
Daylilies prefer to be shipped, bare root. Hope this answers your question.

Oh Arlene -- that sounds soooo painful! I feel so bad for you. Sad If no one comes to dig -- I will try to see if I can get down there. Wouldnt be till later September. Are you still in IA then?

Oh, yes. I am in Iowa most of the time. Just occasional trips to Ca to take care of house, see children, friends, shop.

That is a very nice offer. My friend has a brand new house and if she and her DH come to dig, I can just put some aside for you as we go and put a label on them. I can wash them and pack them as well as mail them.

If they decide not to get any I will let you know and, of course, there is always Spring to do it. If it doesn't get done at all, it doesn't bother me. But if would look better if I were relieved of some.

If you Cmail me your email addy, I will find my excel spread sheet that lists what I have and send to you. After looking at that, you'll know better if I have ones you like.

hi every one
it has been a while
i have a question ,is there any one knowing about this cultivar crow feet,it is an older one that i have seen in a garden
recently there was no other detail than the name, and i would like to know about it. the owner claim it is diploid
in all these years of compilations of data this is the first time i have seen a full carving on a dip.i was so surprise that i forgot to take a picture.

best regard,s

Yep, not a dip. In more humid zones, like Florida where it originated, it shows more sculpting than it did in Calif. in those pictures.
(Jules, couldn't find it on your Google image link above.)

This is from Dan Hansen's web site:
CROWS FEET (Dan Hansen, 04)
SEV Re, 26", E, 6", Round flat, 14BC. Melon Gold blend, green heart. Outside the throat the petal surface has indentations the shape of a "crows foot" - Sculptured. Sepals re-curve. Ruffled. Fertile. (MOON OVER MONTEREY X EMPIRE STRIKES BACK)

when trying to find things on the AHS database site, if your first search does not do it, click "anywhere in word" and just put in part of the name. That is how I ended up finding it. Once I had the name, then I googled "daylily Hansen Crows"

It reminds me a LOT of one of John Peats that I grew for years and years called "Doppler Effect" It grew well here in central Ohio for nearly 10 years
