Happy New Year everyone!

It's been cloudy, windy, blowing the snow around, 6 F, -14 C, it's warmed up a bit. Hilarious! Snow predicted for tonight and tomorrow. Glare

Well, depending on which Weather Service you believe, it is a balmy -18 here but up by Susies, probably closer to -30.

Went out to start my car which I usually do in sub-zero weather, to lazy to go upstairs and put my pants on but did have on a long sleeve knit shirt.
Found out you should switch fan to defrost as having the floor heater fan blowing gets a bit nippy on bare legs; it is odd how while it feels cold, going out , sitting there doing it, you do not pay much attention to the cold as you are too busy concentrating on getting the car started and Idling, BUT once running when you walk back into the house, THEN all you think about is how nippy it is. Sighing!

My brake light is on so it is probably a bad wheel cylinder; I spent too much money on Christmas and other stupid stuff so I will do the work myself but not till day time is above zero. I tip my hat to you.

That sounds like a good plan, RpR - and I hope the plan also includes wearing pants

Oh yes, I do not want to scratch up my legs crawling under the car if it is a brake line instead. Thumbs up

Now ones legs are tougher than ones upper body but I still wonder how girls tough out short skirts in winter Blinking
When we went to the Christmas Eve service, there was a family parked next to us in the parking lot and sat not far from us in church in which the one daughter had on a skirt as short as possible but you will not see her under-wear while she is standing up (she could not pull it down as then you would have seen the top of her under-wear (Now her older sister, Mom and she were all hotties, and dressed like it, but that the father lets the youngest wear a skirt that short { and very high heel platform , PINK, shoes} to church amazes me even though I have dealt with some people with odd morals in my life.)
At that, when church started it was probably 40 degrees, they had no coats, but when it got out it was not much above 20, and the youngest daughter was hurting ,because of the cold, as she waited for her parents to get back to the locked car.
Go figure. Shrug!

Sunday go-to-meetin' wear is definitely not what it once was Blinking

I do remember the days of walking the mile to high school, and traversing the campus at Michigan State during the winter, wearing a short - but definitely not as short as the girl at your church - skirt and "cute shoes." (In somewhat of my own defense, when I was in high school girls were not allowed to wear pants and boys had to wear their shirts tucked in... it seems times have changed almost as much as my grandparents must have thought times had changed when I was young)

I'm thankful that Sunday go-to-meetin' clothes have changed. It is always cold in our church and other than the encouragement to dress modestly, pretty much anything goes. Today I wore jeans and leggings under them, a long sleeved shirt with a sweater over it, and ended up wearing my coat too. I think the older I get the more the cold bothers me. So hallelujah for the change. The other part of the church being cold is that we don't get much for short skirts for return church goers Hilarious!

Your church must have been built by the same people that put our township hall up, Susie - and as much colder as your weather is, compared to here, I can certainly understand the multi-layer wardrobe!

We are going into the dreaded Jan. warm up although at least it will not be one where snow melts.
1 degree right now..

Went home last week to check on the house during the day when it was 20-30 below in most of the state, no frozen water pipes, Christmas Tree still looks good.

Did find out the car battery I bought new in Nov. of 2020 was shot; I went to the store I bought it Friday and they would not put a new one in, for free, if temperature was not above 0, STINKIN GIRLY MEN, and I was not going to do it for them so I drove home, put it on the charger again and the needle swang up to putting in full charge.

I was going to go to the library Friday night but it would not start and really barely fired so I thought if I get it running now, it will probably not start later on.

Finally got it started Saturday morning drove it to O'Reilly, they put a new one in and the car runs far, far, far better than it had for a year; that old battery probably was only half-arsed from the get-go last year.

My one friend came over at 11:30 A.M. on Friday and did not leave until 5:00 P.M. on Friday, I know his married life sucks since his wife got cancer about six or so years ago, and finally lost her Registered Nurse job and at home has turned into a lazy hoarder.( They have separate financial status, he pays for all home improvements while she spends time, including driving to other states, Scrap-booking
She wanted to sell the house and move to a different town with where their daughter lives, so he painted and did exterior improvements, his money.
He has had Heart and other inherited health problem for over a decade, which the doctor finally told him back them, quit your building construction job or you will be dead, so he has still worked part time for the past decade, some time pushing to the point he was back in the hospital. (His Father died in his sixties of heart problems.)
She wanted new stone counter tops, and new floors and he finally said -- YOU pay for it and have it done, I will not.
House is not for sale anymore.
Really sad as she used to be a real get-it-done home maker.

It sounds like there are any number of sad things going on in the lives of your friend and his wife, RpR - some situations really don't seem to have any good solution. Sad

-4°F here this morning, happy I didn't need to go anywhere today! In the meantime I'm reacquainting myself with all the nooks and crannies in the house that seem to get missed with the normal cleaning procedures (and at times less than normal, when there is a lot of gardening to do) Sticking tongue out

I failed to put in a 1 in the previous post Whistling but, for him, that was still a long time to just hang around.

It was -21 below last night with wind. Only -7 tonight and a few days of above zero which I'm so excited about. It's been so cold with a couple of days with more than -30 with strong winds. It was hard to keep the house warm with the wind.

I sorted seeds today. It took me a lot of the day because I'm kind of a seed hoarder and I have a lot of seeds! Whistling
I'm amazed at how long some of them stay viable. It's a while before I start too much but probably some pansies and coleus before so long. I will be excited to be starting things because then it makes it seem that Spring isn't so far ahead. It's a grand illusion but I'm sticking too it, it helps me get through the winter. Hilarious!

I agree, Susie - I think that's why I like starting my plants from seed so much, it's gardening that can be done in the winter! I ordered a few seeds from the Wild Seed Project, not realizing at the time that I ordered them that a couple of the things will likely take 2 winters before they sprout (Winterberry and Black Elderberry). LOL - just when you think starting normal seeds takes patience...

We are now in the January thaw, lots of melting going on as we had some sun yesterday, nice that the furnace isn't running all the time. It is windy today, 35 F, 1 C, with a chance of snow showers later today and tomorrow. In the lower mainland they had a lot of snow, now the big thaw is on and they are expecting another atmospheric river in the next few days. I sure hope it isn't as bad as the last one. Crying

Not a big fan of the January thaws - here it always seems to progress just to the point where we end up with an unwanted ice skating rink where the driveway is supposed to be Thumbs down

I'm with you, Sandi. We have a lot of ice from an earlier melt and the wind has uncovered where it was plowed. I had to be really careful taking stuff to the compost pile because it was so icy. We don't have any melting in our forecast, at least not for the next 10 days. My thermometer, that was in the sun, said thirty at the warmest point in the day but there was still wind so it felt pretty cold.

Well by golly I checked the radar map and it says it is not snowing here, in that case, we are getting doused with the worlds largest pollen.

Light snow has been coming down for a couple of hours, with only a light breeze; I will go out and shovel, or blow, when the snow stops.
If it were the heavy snow they said is supposed to hit down home, I have gone out and shoveled/blown snow during the storm to not have to deal with deep wind-rows in the drive-way.
It has been a long time though since I have gone out around 11P.M. to get such a jump-start on the process.

Stupid MSN weather keeps giving me Seatle weather, for God only knows what reason; the temp. here is not 46 but 14 and looking out the window, now , it seems the wind is picking-up a bit.
Happy 7th day of Orthodox Christmas. I tip my hat to you.

14 and sunny here. No snow forecast until next Tuesday and then only 51 percent chance. I'm sure enjoying the sunshine, it's been awhile since it showed up.
