I grow a few outside and we get temps down to 12 degrees a couple of times each winter.I think the key is how long the temperature stays low.Our ground never freezes.

Thanks, JT,

We had three nights in a row at 12 degrees, daytimes it was in the 20's. The ground here almost never freezes either, but it did those three nights & days. We have no snow cover to protect us.

In a normal winter, we get a few freezes down to 20, and many nights in the high 20's.

This year, one really bad week in December, and since then, no frost at all. Go figure....

Rolling my eyes.

We had several days of freezing weather and the ones I have out side look very sad. I hope they will be ok. Time will tell. Elaine

This is one that was ordered under a different name and I have been told it is "CHARISMA"

Sorry Eglantyne but your bulb isn't Charisma.

Here's what it should look like

I am ecouraged to know that the amaryllis can take some freezing weather. I have some I planted out last Oct. so will see if they come up this Spring. I have about 12 more to go out when the weather gets better. Here are some that will be going outside in the ground. Sure hope this will work because I think it would make a great display outside.

boojum, wish I knew. This is the first time I have ever had an amaryllis, they were sent to me as a gift. I just love them all planted in one big pot. I found it interesting that the white ones are so much taller than the red ones. Right now I have some in another pot that are just now starting to open and they are on very short stalks with miniature red & white striped flowers. I just love them. : )
I just love looking at all the posted pictures. I can't believe I have gone all these years never having grown amaryllis. I had no idea there where so many different ones. I am so thankfull to the DG member that send them to me.

I wonder if that red color on "Sweet Lilian" is really raspberry. That NotBogota up above looks a lot like it.
It's the closest I have seen.Anyway, its a great plant and has had 3 scapes with a total of twelve blooms.Willow Creek has already sent a replacement. That's excellent customer service.

Wow, JT, your 'NotBolero' is quite a looker!! I like the stripe along with the form. I don't blame you for deciding to keep it around.

Brigette, I wonder if yours could be Clown? That was my first thought when I looked at it.

It would be great if we could start a photo file for Amaryllis here on this cubit. Maybe a thread for each Amaryllis and everyone could add their photos? Wonder if it would be possible to do it alphabetically?
