Some seeds germinate differently according to color.
If I remember right---red petunias germinate after all the other colors.
Or sometimes if seeds are older---they will take longer.
My rule is to not throw containers away, until I am sure there are not more to come up.

Weird...my Petunia exserta germinated before Sparkler, which is a purply pinky kind of mix. I think that P. axillaris and P. integrifolia germinated before every other petunia, though. Nothing germinated faster than plectranthus, though.

Petunia exserta germinated readily here too.
And I just sowed some plectranthus.

Several colors of lobelia erinus sprouted readily, but the rose lobelis has not sprouted.
I purchased them all together?

Caroline, I was just about to say that the Regatta Rose didn't sprout for me last year, but then I did find a picture in my files. I do recall that one of the four varieties I grew did sprout a bit later than the others, and that may have been it.

Any sprouts yet of your Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria var. coccinea)? I still have just the one showing; not a very high success rate, but I am glad that it's up at least, and that it's still developing okay.

There are two sprouts of the anthyllis.
One of the orange and one of the red have sprouted.

My first seedling picture of the 2014 season. Smiling

Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria var. coccinea)

I'm so pleased today! I've been on a serious mimulus/erythranthe kick lately, and all six out of the six varieties that I started from Alplains have germinated! Hurray!
Now, I'm all done playing with specks of moist dust for a while. Hilarious! Well, at least for a few days... maybe. Sticking tongue out

Helleborus purpurascens volunteers sprouting outdoors in the garden.

Would anyone like to guess what the one un-hellebore seedling is?

Clues: you ~should~ recognize it. The genus is common, and in addition, everyone saw (a different) pic of it yesterday....

It looks a lot like impatiens. I was checking on my self-sown seedlings today...not too sure how many made it through the freeze. I guess I'll know in a day or two.

We have a winner!

Impatiens balfourii. 20-25˚F seems to be the teetering point for seedling survival of this hardy annual. They are much more cold hardy than when they are full grown. It's not uncommon for the earliest risers here to be killed by an early spring low temperature dip. But there are always more...

Acorns back atchya, Chelle. Hope any forays you have with Frit seeds are fruitful. They aren't always the easiest doers.

So impatiens is the little seedling with the two round looking leaves? What is the one that looks almost like a purple coneflower?

Holicow, Jennifer! Do you think those are all dianthus seedlings? That's a bunch!

Out of maybe 30 Impatiens balfourii seedlings I had...today I see maybe 4 survivors. Rolling my eyes. I guess this one won't run toward being all that invasive here...natural controls at work!

@chelle I sure hope they are dianthus seedlings. I strongly suspect that they are. Clearly this variety does not mind the cold one bit!

It seems to me that I had a plethora of seedlings when I grew Siberian Blue, too.
