Wouldn't floating row covers take care of any late frosts and maybe even light snow??

Yes, they do, and I use them on cold weather crops like broccoli, cabbage and lettuce, but since tomatoes aren't a cold weather crop I need something more substantial and the Wall-O-Waters seem to be doing the job quite well.

I want to get it done and fix up my veggie beds. But obviously not when it was so cold outside. Now the weather has warmed so hopefully winter is over and I can get working on my veggie beds. The peas would not have sprouted in the cold we had earlier anyway so no use planting.

I know they are in the house SOMEWHERE! But not in the places I'd think they would be.

I've used wall-o-waters/season starters for several years to get an extra early start here in central Texas. I've started as early as mid February. We have frosts or freezes as late as late March. I have about 30 of the walls.

One year I planted a test group with every other plant in a water-filled protector, the others with plastic wrapped around the cages. There was an upper 20s freeze. All the plants in plastic froze and died. All in the walls survived. A side benefit was that the walls protected the small seedlings from our fierce March winds. By the time the plants started to grow out the top the weather was warm enough to remove the walls.

I'm not using them this year since I'm only growing a few tomatoes in Earthboxes due to my health. I described my starting process with pictures over in the container forum.

Here is my post now on the correct thread! --

Planting peas today finally. Simply a beautiful day. Over 60 and sunny. I got my pots planted that I do with peas. Now have to work on my in ground areas so I can get those in too.

I did get lots of pots moved around and I do plant lots of veggies in pots. And I got one tomato bed leveled and worked on and started another. Still lots to go but it is going to be a while till I am ready to plant tomatoes.

Not done for today, just taking a break.
