Here it is:

Monday, I pulled as much cinquefoil 'Nana' out of my front yard as I could (about 1/2 done) and tidied up out there. Also setup my second black plastic compost bin.

Tuesday, I set up the second of 3 sections of my veg bed, including taking the large open compost pile apart and shoveling all the "done" stuff into the new bed. (looks like I buried a body out there! It's just the right size and shape...)

Today, I dug up about 1/3 of the "alternative lawn" I made last year.... I discovered that layered newspaper wasn't tough enough to kill the wild buttercups. Blinking So I'm digging the buttercups and relocating them to an area I won't mind them being hip high. Then I'll cover the ground with CARDBOARD, add topsoil (again) and reseed all my johnny jump ups, clovers, alyssum, etc.

THEN I still have to dig the ditch lilies from another location for relocation where I won't mind THEM being tall.........

Tomorrow I have city errands. In the rain, likely, on the bus. Glare

Friday, weather permitting, my kind young neighbor has his day off and will help me move some heavy stuff. Lovey dubby He doesn't mind helping me a time or two in the Spring and Fall because I let him and his fiancee "babysit" potted plants for the summer on their deck. It's a good exchange.

When the rain does stop - Saturday?? I'll start on that third section of veg garden, involving moving another 4x4x4 compost pile so I can dig out the "done stuff" to fill that end of the veg garden.

I'm having a lot of fun out there, despite the fact my back and neck are screaming at me!
Thank goodness for Excedrin.

You did a lot of work. My back is aching just thinking about all that! Hilarious!

Honestly, I am out of shape. I exercise during the winter but it is not the same as all the bending and lofting needed for doing gardening.

When I was in my 20s and 30s I thought that if I worked hard, physically, I would build up and be better off down the line. I'm now 55 and have scoliosis. Everything I do hurts. I walk and walk and it doesn't build up my endurance (at least not by any measure I can make of it). It just makes me SORE.

Chiropractic helped a LOT (relieved the pain, anyway) - and then I lost my car and haven't been able to get back there.

-sigh- but at least it's SPRING and my mind is pleasantly occupied!

I'll repeat the positive part:
It's SPRING and my mind is never happier than when in the garden!
nodding

The rest is what it is and I hope to get back to the chiropractor soon.
It's a grueling bus trip but I'm working on nailing it down to manageable.

SPRING SPRING SPRING SPRING!!!!!

I haven't touched my soggy, half-thawed veggie patch yet, but I have lettuce sprouts in a big container! Hurray! This is so great!!! I usually have rotten luck with lettuce. Funny thing is...the soil in it was still frozen. I just dumped a couple of inches of new stuff on top, scattered seed and covered it with tulle. It should be able to take a few nights in the high 20's, right? Or should I cover it with a bit of straw?

I was thinking about planting potatoes this weekend, but I think it might still be too cold. Hardly anything around here is even greening up yet. My bulbs have barely poked their heads out of the ground--no flowers yet.

Is there some sort of rule like plant potatoes when the daffodils bloom, or when the forsythia blooms, or anything like that? I'm all ears!

Where I am they say to plant potatoes in March, and that's just whe the forsythia bloom here also. So I'd go with the forsythia.

I have just planted chives, bunching onions, tomatoes, cauliflower, lettuce and carrots in 6 paks under lights in the garage. Will do another batch in about two weeks or so. Have all sorts of seeds that I can direct plant. Have the plastic over the hoop raised beds to melts snow faster and warm the soil. Am going to try the E-buckets for my tomatoes this year.

Critter if you take baths to ease aches and pains add coriander tea to it and see if that helps.
It is Spring here and I have all kinds of flowers started. Hopefully, this year I will learn not to kill the little darlings by planting them out too early.

Y'know I've always thought that. Never been able to get comfortable in a home bathtub though (I'm too short - have to hold on tight or I slide down! Hilarious! and even when I'm slid down, I have to point my toes to not go under! Not conducive to relaxation Rolling on the floor laughing That's not a ROFL, it's me flailing in the tub. )

BUT my new chiropractor recently told me that warm soothing of achy muscles has an aftereffect of actually increasing inflammation. He recommends COLD pain relief. Gave me a fistful of samples of "Biofreeze" to use. Haven't yet but surely will when the summer is on. for the simple heat stroke prevention of it!

Meanwhile, if I do have a warm soak I will definitely add coriander to it! I'm an herbal leaning girl!
