Thanks TK & Sandy. I have enjoyed reading this thread too. Just have trouble finding time to join in but hope it doesn't die out.

I have a couple more to add ~ hopefully this weekend.

I haven't decided what plant to put in that first one. I only set a plant in it.
These are fun to find a plant suited to the shade. All it takes is a piece of screen in the bottom opening and some soil.

Excellent! Iove the first shade as well. How about a fern so the shade gets to show off?

Now that is cool Pirl. Do you find it requires more water?

BTW, I meant to mentioned I liked your sinks. Especially the bloomer colors you have in the master bath sink. Also the chives in the sea of green was pretty. Are they surrounded by lily of the valley?
I have a sink and may have to think about "sinking" it in the ground. lol

I think a fern would be lovely but my time is sparse and it would require more attention for watering that I can donate. Think I'd better stick with a succulent ~ I just haven't hit on the right one.

I think dragons blood sedum would be a perfect fit for that beauty. I love the metal on it.

Hmmmm ~ interesting. I will have to go look at that sedum. It sounds unusual. The metal is another reason I don't want to have to water this container a lot. Sedum might be a good choice. Thanks!

To be honest when I saw that picture I put it on my to do list to find one myself and to put that sedum in it. Please post a pic on whatever you decide to do. Thumbs up

Yes, Kristi, it required almost daily watering.

I do like the idea of a succulent for your beautiful shade.

I've been trying to think of what I could do with these, hard as rocks, unattractive gourds.

Thumb of 2015-12-22/texaskitty111/3bcea6
I decided to use them as rocks, which we have I serious deficit of on our sandhill property. The rain is washing the sand out from under the garage, so I'm trying to fill it in.

OMG, TK -- how different things are from one end of this country to the other!

Ive been using old, large boxes in my garden to make raised beds. Putting fence wire around then will hopefully keep them from collapsing for a while.

And these are the old sinks I replaced:

They are sitting on top of all the old siding, which hopefully is composting.

Clever idea to use the cardboard boxes reinforced with wire. If the inner ones break down too fast, get more boxes and put them on the outside, tied together with twine. The very best boxes for this might be those from furniture and appliance stores. Larger boxes have fewer seams and gaps. The big ones are also ideal for killing the grass and weeds when starting a lasagna bed. I like the old sink idea: very sturdy and it comes with it's own drain.

Enjoyed this thread!

I use feed sacks over tomato cages to protect tender transplants until the acclimate to the heat of the sun.

I cut the side wall from one side of tires and make raised beds.
