My DRs do best when I am too busy to look at them. Then suddenly their colorful blooms catch my eye! To me, they are not much to look at without blooms though a lot of gardeners grow them for their fancy caudecies...caudexes...caudi...??? plant bases. Rolling on the floor laughing I much prefer the flowers. I hate that these beauties get bruised with drops of rain. btw we got 6" and still falling. I have turned off my sprinkler system.

Great news about the rainfall, Cheryl! We ate dinner watching the weather guy following the possible tornado heading for our little lake place. At the last minute the funnel veered away and to the east. Hail is possible , but the bad stuff has moved on. I'm just glad we aren't there!

Lots of flooding here and low water crossings are closed. Now we're under a severe thunderstorm warning tonight in Austin. I was up at 4:30 this morning watching the water come onto the patio. Yard is saturated.

I agree

I filled all my milk jugs and put out more buckets and containers to catch rain water. It didn't rain today but I hope we get some more. The plants are so very happy. I even found tadpoles in one of my buckets Smiling

We need the water in our lakes, and to prevent drought this summer, but not the flooding. The river near is us and several bayous in the city are about to crest and so I have to adjust my driving route to get to work tonight. The streets around the river have flooded homes already. More big rains to come on Friday, hopefully things will drain off in time.

Stay safe, Cheryl. We always hear of a few people who drive through a low water crossing here and get swept away when it rains. We had another 2" yesterday. Possible to get a little rain this evening, but the sun is out and so are the mosquitoes!

We're getting frequent hard down pours today. A half inch so far bringing the temps down to 77º. Then the sun comes out brightly bring it up to a steamy 86º. It's back and forth, back and forth. I hope nothing burns out there!

We had nearly 10" at the lake, and just about 6" here over the Memorial weekend. We're still under watering restrictions at both places.
The caladiums are just starting to peek out. I planted them a little later than I had planned to. Maybe that was a good thing. The wind would have probably shredded them. Parts of Austin had hail, but not here, thank goodness.

We've had over 12" in the past 10 days. The mosquitoes are loving it! And they are loving me, too! Usually, they don't like to bite me. I have never gotten bitten so much before! My caladium are up with 1-3 leaf sets. But they are short right now. I can't believe some survived the winter we had. I transplanted them yesterday as they were under some Elephant Ears. That part of the yard mosquitoes love for some reason. I have a wedding to attend. I wasn't planning on wearing hose. But I have to cover up these bites on my legs!

I wanted to spray the yard with Mosquito-B-Gone, but we still have D-cat and kittens. I'm not sure if that would affect cat running around. I just try to stay out of garden unless it's the middle of the day when the mosquitoes hide out. Hate 'em!

I have kittens also...somebody dumped them here a while ago, about as soon as they could barely eat regular catfood. None of the pet rescue organizations will take them so far. Just checked the long-range drought forecast. Looks like it'll be here a while.

We had a couple of good showers last week. Because of watering restrictions we can't fill our "water features," like the fountain out back or the little one in the courtyard. That would be okay, except that the little rain that we get pools in those because one has a rubber sheeting liner and the other has waterproof coating on the stone (fountain). I have to haul a shop vac around to get the water out to stay ahead of the mosquitoes. I use the dunks, but I really don't think they do the trick. The only way to get around the restriction is to add fish. The raccoons have voted for that alternative.

No significant rain here - nearby, but not on our farm.

We've been getting short showers here around 3x week. Enough not to have to water the lawn. But the void of sunshine is still taking its toll on some plants. Despite the rain,I see on that posted site that we are in a probable drought area.
