Texas Star common name confusion:
Texas Star (Lindheimera texana) is a small wildflower that can be found in the Hill Country.


Texas Star Hibiscus, however, is probably more at home in east Texas where there's more rain.

Love them both but don't have either one. Yet!

The Indian Blankets have covered the front pastures, and they are providing a wonderful habitat for bees and butterflies.

Last visit to Texas included panoramas of the Blanket Flower. Mr. White bring out a nice contrast.

Sotols (Dasylirion texanum). They put up a spectacular flower stalk about 10 feet tall.

Do the deer eat cactus?
Only as high as they can reach.

LOL. I've seen cows eating the fruits from the prickly pear cactus and they don't seem to mind all the little needles.

Ranchers in south Texas will sometimes "burn pear" so the cattle will eat the cactus.

So far (knock on wood) the deer haven't discovered the cactus flowers.

Yes, it is amazing what big and beautiful blooms that little cactus has. I have one and I always marvel at their beauty and size.

It made me sad when I noticed that this forum hasn't been updated for two weeks. Yes, the bluebonnets have gone to seed and the paintbrushes have pretty much disappeared. Even the Indian Blankets are starting to look a bit ragged. But it's not over yet! Now the Mexican Hats are in "party mode". I am always amazed by the yellows and reds.



They start off looking fairly normal.



But somewhere along the way, they decide to hybridize.



And a few of them end up looking truly amazing!!! Like Mother Nature Run Amok!



There are still plenty of wildflowers to photograph!
