Rick,
That is so interesting. I assumed that it would be a species that was native to the midwest. I looked up dauricum and it seems to be from Asia and Siberia. I wonder how it ended up in my lily bed -- a total mystery.

My guess is that it snuck in with a purchased bulb of another variety as a bulblet and grew from there.

Welcome! John. That L. dauricum showing up like that was indeed a nice surprise! Every once in a great while, nice things like that happen in the lily world. I got a L. hansonii that came up here the same sort of way. At least that's what I think it is. I spotted it growing in sort of a junky area behind my garden shed where I store old pots and stuff. I love surprises like that! I'll have to send Rick a picture by Tree Mail to see what he says. Rick's our Species expert on lilium. Smiling

You're getting us all mixed up, Lorn Smiling : that's Lilium dauricum (hybrid) in Joe's pics and Lilium philadelphicum in mine.

My pics were all taken at Clinton Prairie in the wild in western Minnesota. You can read more about it here:
https://www.nargs.org/forum/we...
Clinton Prairie starts with post #20, and the lilies in post #22.

Rolling on the floor laughing Yeah, but I wish somebody would have pointed that out to me sooner. They say transposition in a sign of stress. I guess we're all getting stressed out a little bit because some of us still have quite a bit of Fall work to do and we're running out of season. Grumbling Anthony and Della will lift our spirits before long. Thumbs up

Hilarious!

I think Anthony is way ahead this year - he should have flowers popping soon. I'm still looking for buds! (Or I will be, when I get home in a few days nodding )

Yes, sorry, I added to the confusion while trying to clear it up!
And then (somehow) I never saw that posts where add to this thread to respond to!

I think somehow Lorn read my mind. I always take a week of work in October because I need it for garden work. This year, I can't get time off until November. It can get pretty cold out here for working outside in November, so I'm trying to squeeze in more gardening now.

Hello, everyone! Happy Spring. It's been a while since I've posted on the forum but believe me I've been lurking and learning a lot!. I now have a follow-up to last year's post about my Anastasia blooms that seemed to have color breaking and I was worried about a virus (see earlier posts & pics in this thread). Everything is coming up in the garden and noticed something unusual about one of the emerging sprouts of the Anastasia bulbs. It seems to have some blotching on it.(first pic) The other Anastasia sprouts are a deep rich violet (2nd & 3rd pics). Any thoughts on whether I should dig this one up and toss. Or all of them? I added 50 bulbs to the collection last Fall and am worried about spreading anything. Thanks in advance.

That first shoot would have me worried as well. Even if I wasn't certain (and I'm not!), I'd remove it anyway and sleep without the worry! I wouldn't want to risk the two healthy-looking Anastasia or my new plantings.
