Blotching in early stages that might have been exposed to excessively cold temps isn't that unusual. But to have the same cultivar exposes to the same environmental conditions and exhibiting such variation makes me uneasy, too. Can you verify that the affected nose is from the same bulb as the affected stem of last year?

Update on my Summer's End saga (earlier in this thread):

Last year the blooms on one of my Summer's End showed signs of virus but like a dummy I decided to keep it another year and see how it returns. As I recall the foliage showed no sign of virus back then.

Here is how the foliage looked when it emerged:

Needless to say it is gone now...

I certainly wouldn't want that in my garden, be it virus, mycoplasma, or anything in between!

Yeah, that's usually the way it goes; when you initially suspect something, most times your first suspicions are right. I pretty much concluded it never pays to wait around and 'see'. Like the nose in John's picture. I'd scrap all three. Chances are pretty good they all have it, even though the other two don't show it yet. As soon as the virus weakens them a little more and with a little outside stress of too warm or too dry, they'll show symptoms also. It's just a matter of time. Sad

As long as it looked good, yes, I'd eat it. But I would tasted it first before I mixed it with any other food. Sometimes, infected foods can have an off taste, despite what it looks like. A virus that infects plants will never infect a human. Most garlic that we eat are virused. Think of it this way: what do you do with a potato that has a bruise or rotten spot on it? You just cut that part away and prepare the rest of the potato as I would have anyway.

It is the one big problem with lilies, their susceptibility to virus😕

Well, now--especially the OT's and LA's. Trumpets, Aurelians and Asiatics, not so much.

Just discovered this Oriental that looks a little weird. It came in a mixed set from a very reputable lily grower. It seems to be the only one that is exhibiting this coloration on the leaves. Any thoughts?

Yes, it certainly appears to be infected. Plants are most apt to show symptoms when either the bulb or plant are stressed. Transplanting a bulb from one place to another is stressful to it. If this bulb were given the opportunity to settle in and grow this spring, these symptoms most likely would disappear as growing conditions improved--but the virus is still there. Since your reputable dealer was growing them under ideal conditions, the symptoms were not present and he never knew it. Since this bulb has made contact with other bulbs in the bag, you might want to keep a close eye on the new top growth of those as well throughout the summer.

I agree with Lorn and would get it out ASAP. I have removed several suspicious looking lilies this spring and I have found one more to remove. I have enjoyed it for several years so won't miss it that much.

Unfortunately , reputable Lily sellers 'aren't as reputable as they used to be'.. Here in Australia even.[everybody buys from the same supplier].. No supplies of Mapira this year in Australia' Crop Failure'...This was obvious last year!.. There are a few 'Smaller' suppliers that are succeeding.. [growing their own bulbs]
lily freaks are not geeks!

So to the trash heap with virus symptoms today are Kiss of Fire, Purple Prince, Wassail (although I got 3 good years out of it), and visa versa!

The very sad reality. Many of the newer varieties do not have the virus tolerance needed to remain long term. So beautiful they were.

I took out several lilies that were in the vicinity of Kiss of Death. Now I have another one to remove, Original Love was next to KoD.
