I read an article today in the newspaper that suggested planting zinnas now, will bloom in a month making fine fall flowering vistas.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

Xeramtheum said:Thanks! Can't believe that's a Pelargonium! When I first saw it I though it might be the Brazilian Shrimp Plant, Justicia nodosa.

And yes, that's Hibiscus acetosella 'Haight Ashbury'. The leaves aren't as colorful in full sun as they are in bright dappled shade.

Thumb of 2014-07-15/Xeramtheum/ea2931

I love Hibiscus acetosella 'Haight Ashbury but was only able to find it one year. It is a plant not offered much even online.

This is the one I found 3 yrs ago. I tried to winter it indoors but it did not survive. I think indoors it would have needed more humidity.

Hibiscus Mahogany Splendor I tried this one year. Seed from Summer Hill seed. Not the same but might do in a pinch. I still have one wintered over in the greenhouse. Looked bad this spring but is coming into it own this summer.

Really awesome pictures, everyone!!! It's wonderful that gardeners do so much work to create such splendor. I won't repeat all the wonderful things that I've seen here, but I would like to show my favorite annual......Lisianthus. I grow these from seed under lights starting in early December. They don't bloom til late July, but they last a very long time on the plant or in a vase.

They are beautiful. I usually grow them too but I knocked over my seedlings three times this year so after the third time I figured I wasn't supposed to have them this year.

I think I'm going to try to have the patience to harvest seeds this year. Don't know if it's worth the effort because many things don't reproduce true to the host.
