Bald eagle nest with young fledgling. This was at Camano Island State Park last weekend, and the nest has closed about 10 surrounding campsites to give the eagles peace and quiet. Unfortunately, the host tree has died and the State plans to take it out after the eagles leave this season. Hopefully they will rebuild, they've been using this nest for several years now.

Lin, the birds look like they were celebrating for you!
Fantastic catch Deb! It is too bad about the tree. Seems like several well known eagle nest have lost their trees or nesting platforms. Hopefully they will return to a location in the area.

In nature, trees die and nests fall, so I assume the eagles will figure it out. This particular nest is located in a 150+ acre state park with salt-water shoreline so I'm sure there are plenty of potential replacement nest sites. I was very pleased that the Park Department temporarily closed so many prime campsites to protect the eagles, around 10% of their revenue is 'on hold' until the youngster fledges.

They're trying to tell you something Glen.
Lin, wonderful photos as always! Glad you got your camera back.

Ann, Well it's not my original camera ... Canon ended up sending me a brand new one, same model. The guy my husband spoke to at Canon told him they didn't repair that particular model anymore. The first person he spoke with said we could buy a new one (for three hundred something) but after talking to someone else for awhile and my husband telling the guy that we'd always bought Canon products and that we still had a few in the house ... they told him they would send a replacement at no charge. There was a paper in the box saying that since they didn't repair that model anymore they were replacing it with a new or refurbished camera. It doesn't appear to be refurbished but rather brand new! Every camera we've ever owned has been a Canon, with the exception of a Polaroid way back when but we also owned a Canon at that same time. Sending a new camera to replace the broken one was such a nice thing to do ... the customer service we received sure makes us want to continue to stay with the Canon brand!
Anyway, here are some pictures from today.

Lin, excellent photos, and good customer service story. I've also been a Canon fan for many years, although I now have a Nikon - when comparing two comparable models, the Canon was malfunctioning at the store and for reasons I couldn't fathom, the clerk simply shrugged. Go figure.

Deb, LOL ... I know what you mean about store clerks, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of customer service with a lot of stores nowadays. My husband buys cameras and most electronics on-line anymore. He's a pretty technical person and it makes him crazy to go into an electronics store and try to talk to a clerk who hasn't the slightest clue about the products they are selling.
We have two of the large big box stores here and he prefers one over the other because on numerous occasions when he's gone into one store (whose name I won't mention) for a tool or something in that department, the employees in the particular department didn't have a clue about the item he was looking for.

Thanks Glen; we don't see this raptor often but they sure are pretty. I don't know what they were hunting for today but their diet consists of snakes, lizards, frogs, small mammals, birds and eggs.
