PSA are you talking about the rocks in the top pond? That is a sedum that I dropped just a few leaves here and there and they took off like crazy. If it's in the flagstone...that is weeds, that survived the RU. LOL!!!!

Thanks Yall!!! I have been ponding for about 13 yrs. now. I generally start my day and end it by the pond.

I was talking about the rocks in the water. I didn't know sedum could survive in that situation. What kind is it?

Jeri I think your pond is bigger than our backyard! lol!
How many gallons? What size? Love the silver leaved tree on the right.

We pond/garden on a very small 'Urban' lot.
So we tend to go up whenever possible.
Here's our 'Stacked Pond' in the Brickroom (an old 1920's brick driveway/pad we found buried under 12" of soil)

Thumb of 2011-07-16/Henryr10/52f489

Here's a construction shot from May 6 of last year.
The parts all came from Tractor Supply in the Livestock Area.
Bottom container is 110 Gallon Stock Tank. Top two are 40 gallon. 'Filter' is a 4.5 gallon feeder.
All from Tuff Stuff (100% recycled LDPE flexible plastic)

The 'balancing act' had us go thru about 4 variations before coming up w/ the Stable Version....lol!

Total cost excluding pump about 120 bucks.....

Bowling balls are from St Vincent DePaul.... about 3 bucks a piece and MUCH sturdier than Glass Gazing Balls....LOL!

I have no idea what kind. It gets those little yellow flowers in the spring. It's been there for years and appears to love it.

Henry both ponds together is around 15000 gals. The waterfall is 9' above the sidewalks and falls into the top pond which is about 8' around and 4' deep. The water rambles over the area with the sedum and then drops into the bottom pond which is around 25' and ranges from 1 1/2' deep to 4'. I have a sump pump from Harbor Freight on the right side of the falls and a swimming pool pump on the left side of the fall. The left pump runs through a bead filter and 65W UV light. Normally the water is crystal clear but this year I have had trouble after I cleaned out the entire pond. It is improving finally and then our monsoon season appears to have arrived.

Really natural and gorgeous, Jeri. Bet you get a tremendous amount of enjoyment from the ponds. Question. What is the red flowering tree in the foreground of the last picture?

Thanks Susie!! Yes I do enjoy it tremendously!!!! The tree in the last picture is a holly tree that was loaded with berries. The birds have a field day eating all the berries.

PSA the tree you inquired about is 2 silver dollar eucalyptus that I bought from one of those mail order magazines about 20 years ago and they were a 2" plug when they arrived. I raised them in pots for years and it looked like a small bush at the time that they were planted there. I had successfully connected them together but Hurricane Katrina broke off the connecting branches so I am starting that process over. You probably didn't recognize them b/c they are normally 40' tall and fairly straight. They are planted in a rock flower bed retainer wall to the pond that is maybe a 1 1/2' wide and about 2' deep so the roots are retrained and I have to whack on it constantly. A friend told me I had bonsai them which is probably true but I had done all this before I knew any better and it was entirely a beginner mistake. I tried for 12 yrs to do cuttings and root them to no avail and then discovered that eucalyptus will not root from a cutting. Live and learn!!! LOL!!!

Here is a link to some more pictures of the back yard if Yall are interested.

Carolyn you wouldn't if you had to cut all this grass. My front yard is 200' from the road and we cut not only our grass but my sister's and my cousin that lives next door. Then the back is unreal. So after raising 3 kids and them using my backyard for football, baseball, soccer and cheerleading practice they grew up and the last one left home so it became mine. LOL!!! My friends all thought I had lost my mind b/c none of them care anything about gardening other than maybe vegetables. Then we had to consider the elevation where I live is around 11' above sea level and there are no rocks in La. that big. I did all of this in 1998 before the internet became so availabe. I also did it before I became a Master Gardener. Then I learned that most of what I have done is wrong. Starting with I had never done a soil test.

I wouldn't care if I had to mow it all by myself! I would love to have more acreage and neighbors further away then their current proximities.

Regarding your ponds - if it works, that is all that counts! There are no right or wrong ways!

Only thing that has slowed me down in not being able to do like I used too....
