I have been trying to keep the weeds out of the flower beds that got done earlier this spring. Here are pictures of two of my areas.
This area I call my bird house area. This is an old dump rake that is missing some parts. It was in the fence line of one of our fields. A tree grew through it and had to be cut down before we could get it out of there.
These next pictures are of the flower bed that is along the front of our house between the garage and the front door.
Here is my raised bed area. I have a few of the beds planted with veggies and herbs and the rest have Iris, Liles, and other flowers. The last picture is the arbor going into the Asparagus patch between the road bank and the raised bed garden.
Can't believe I haven't posted anything since Aug. 2015. Well, it is now April 2016 and here is what is growing in my Iowa flower beds so far this year. I bought myself a new camera for Christmas just so I can take better pictures of my beautiful blooms. I hope you enjoy. Most of my flowers are NOID. This is my flagpole flower bed in front of our house. My grandchildren named my new Miniature Schnauzer puppies Cookie Dough and Lilly. They had to get into the picture.
This yellow flower is called Basket of Gold. Boy, does it ever reseed itself. I hope to put some of this on my road bank and let it go to town.
These are flowers that are in the bed that goes all along the 4 rail fence in our back yard. I planted a whole lot of flowers in this long bed last year. I can't wait to see all the blooms this year. They are all coming back great so far. I am so happy.
This second picture is of my bush that had outgrown its area so I cut it back early this spring. I am so happy to see if coming back.
Caroline. When I get outside working, I lose all track of time. There is still so much to do. I am looking forward to posting pictures of completely finished beds. Here are a few of my other beds.
These next two pics are of the front of the house between the garage and the front door.
I just signed in under a new username which is jeanned. I have this Microsoft Surface and was not able to get logged in to this website so I started a new account. We will see how this works out.
Here are some pictures that I took with my Surface. This is my 10 raised bed garden.
I have 7 tubs like this with potatoes growing in them. We planted the potatoes on Good Friday. As the potato plants grow I will add dirt around the plant base.
This is one of my vegetable beds that still has flowers in it. I have been working on getting the flowers planted elsewhere. These are NOID Dwarf Iris and NOID Asiatic Lilies. These Lilies are 2 year old plants. I am hoping they bloom this year.
Well, I am back on my main computer instead of my Microsoft Surface. Here is the only bed that is complete except for a few annuals and a possible rock border. Maybe I will get to the rock border today in between rain showers.
The second picture shows the back of the bed. I am going to make this into a flower bed also. It is just too hard to mow between the Hibiscus and the flower bed along the 4 rail fence.
So much to do to get the rest of the yard looking nice. I will post pictures as I get a bed completed with border and mulch and new plants. It is never ending.
Hello Jeanne, I have just encountered your entries of flower pictures from your Iowa garden. You have done an amazing job, and I think your plants are very grateful to you because they look so healthy and stunning!
On January 10th, 2015 you started a string of NOID's, and I thought I recognized a Lily and a Daylily.
First there were 2 Daylilies and then a Lily. The 2nd Lily after that could be Grand Cru. And the Daylily after that looks like Spiritual Corridor by Curt Hanson in 1992. Look in the Database and see what you think. My hat is off to you for the incredible job you are doing.
Cheers, Nora
Here are some pictures of my flowers that have recently bloomed. I am so busy weeding, planting flowers and making borders. I am not sure which way is up!!
Above is my north side flower bed. The only flowers that I have in here are annuals in the grill, the pots by the outhouse, and the tree stump. On each side of the Arbor there are Molly Allium growing. Oh Yah, I also have a bush by the stump but it is not growing very fast. The Iris are on the inside of the vegetable garden along the 2 rail fence.
Above is my vegetable garden raised beds. In the red tubs are potatoes. I am done adding soil to the tubs. Next to it is a picture of part of my front flagpole bed. This is a ground cover that I would like to move to my road bank. I want to put a rock border around this bed sometime this summer. We picked the rock up out of one of my husbands farm fields but just finding the time to do it is the hard part.
Below are a few picture of some of my flowers. No time to ID them. I am tired and bed is calling me in.
@jeanned
Thanks for the attention getting - - - @ - - - signal. I do love your pictures and all the energy you put into creating your space.
Hope you take time to relax and enjoy it , too.
Here is a picture of my flower bed along the cement slab beside the garage. This was taken the first part of June. I put these border stones up last year but the wind and rain knocked them over and spread the mulch around.
I straightened up the border stone and picked up all the mulch that was were it wasn't suppose to be. I wasn't sure how I was going to keep the border in place so it wouldn't tip over again so I came up with this idea. I had a chicken/rooster collection so I decided to place them on the cement silo stones that the border stones are sitting on. I sure hope this works. I did one section with the chickens/rooster and the other 2 sections with other statues and knick knacks. I still need to replenish the mulch in this area and add some of my yard décor and then it is done.
Here are some other pictures of my finished beds. I added more plants and replenished the mulch in all of them. I just need to add some yard décor. This is the flower bed that runs along the south yard fence next to the pasture.
As you can see, I have plenty of room to add new flowers. I will add more every year. Here are a couple beds that are in the front yard.
Here are some pictures of my flowers that I took yesterday on July 4th. This are really filling in nicely. Although, I am a plunker and you can sure tell that by looking at my pictures. In some I have 3-4 yellows together and in another I have 3-4 purples together. Oh well, I love all my flowers and their blooms.
These were taken of the flower bed right in front of the house. I call this my flagpole bed. This bed is one that has not had the mulch replenished yet and I still want to put a rock border around it, I think. More pics to follow after downsizing them.
Here are a few pictures of the right side of the vegetable raised bed area and the small bed on the north side of the house near the veggie area.
I think I will also put a rock border around this side bed. I planted all the Asiatic Lily and the Daylily last year. This spring I took out all the old mulch and added some fabric and all new mulch. I had a few more geese in this bed but after a few games of horseshoes over the weekend, a few are no longer intact. I never thought to move them with the horseshoe pit so close. Thank goodness the gazing ball made it okay. I have tulips and daffodils and Molly Allium planted here also that are already finished.
@Thomas75 Thanks. Here are a few pictures of some of my other flower beds that I got topped off with more mulch and yard décor. I love decorating my flower beds. The flowers are sure starting to fill in but as you can tell I do not plan what goes where. I just dig a hole and plant.
These first two pictures are areas I just did this spring by my garden shed next to my raised vegetable garden.
These next pictures are along the fence along the back of my yard. This first one is tall garden phlox and Spiderwort. The second one is Purple cone flower and a Daylily. As you can see, I have plenty of room to add more flowers in the future.
Here are pictures of my flower bed that is along the fence to the pasture. In this second picture is a Butterfly Bush that we brought back from our trip to Knoxville, TN. I was so happy to see it come back this spring. The plant to the left of it is a Catmint that I just moved there this spring. I hope I didn't put it too close to the BB.
I have transplanted different flowers to this long bed but as you can see, I have lots of room to add more. I love Silver Mound. I just added this one this spring. The tall plant on the right/left is a NOID yellow Iris. I may have to move it cause it is getting so tall. I love the globe thistle but I make sure I remove the seed pods before they open. I don't want it to spread.
Newly planted Asiatic Lily and a newly planted Daylily to the right of the globe thistle. It will take them a few years to fill in.
Not sure but I think this might be a Salvia. I think it might need to be divided. Any thoughts?
As soon as I saw this art looking thing, I knew I had to have it to put in my flower bed. I think it was $3 at a yard sale.
This tall flower is a Balloon Flower. It is really spreading and is growing so tall. I have transplanted parts of this flower to other areas. The Pansies self sow every year and keep moving further down the bed. I love them so they can do whatever they want.
Asiatic Lily. I added some Iris and a few other plants to the second picture. Will have to wait till next year to see if they get established.
I have annuals in these tires but they haven't filled in yet. Guess they may need more watering than I have been providing. The plant in the container by the trellis is 4 0`clocks, I think, that I grew from seed. I am hoping they bloom so I can determine if that is what they are.
Possibly 4 0`clocks. I have never grown these before. Can't wait to see if I can get a bloom or two.
Well, that is pretty much my Pasture bed for now. I am adding to it but it is not ready to be photographed yet. I need to add many more plants to the open areas in this long bed which will take time.
