Thank You! vitrsna,
Yes, we get started talking and end up all over the place talking about different subjects. It's all good.

Do you know how to use the @ feature to give a 'shout out' to someone? Just place the @ infront of the member's screen name and ATP will send them a message to let them know you are talking about them or are inviting them to join in the conversation on a particular subject.

Like this:
@vitrsna

(Now I will go back to wondering how to pronounce "vitrsna". Blinking Confused Rolling on the floor laughing )

Hilarious! Thank you Greene...i have seen that @name and thought it was only to go to that person's profile page. This is a nifty feature and i appreciate you mentioning it. "Vitrsna" is a Sanskrit word meaning "contentment". Many people just refer to me as "Vit" for short to get around the "rsna" problem. As far as i know it is pronounced vit re sna or close. Or, "Beverly" will do as well, i'm not too fond of "Bev" because then everyone starts to call me "Beth".

So, tell me , if i receive a post with @Name do i click on it? or did it already activate when the message was sent? and it just tells me something was sent to @name (kind of like a cc:) ? I am guessing i don't do anything with it because i have already received a system message saying my name showed up in your post. Is that right? Do i click or not....that is the question. Really there are lots of nifty features at ATP. It was also good to find out that Moderators can bounce somebody's post or thread to the Sandbox...this is a real riot Rolling on the floor laughing Yeah, i am still laughing about that one.

¡¡Bienvenidos Vitrsna!! I tip my hat to you.

and thanks to Hetty for sending me a 'head's up' as I hadn't seen this thread before. It's nice to have others here from Mexico, especially such a beautiful part of the country. Are you near the coast or inland, the city of Colima or elsewhere in the state? I've been in Colima many times and found it incredible.

I've been a bit absent this past week, I will try and catch up this week. I can't add much to the thread on welcoming new members, I think we do a pretty good job of it actually.

When you get a @vitrnsa notice, you just click that and it will take you to where you were mentioned.

Don't be offended when you bounce to the sandbox. It's actually the most fun place on ATP.

Thank You! Saludos Jonna! Es un gusto de conocerle! and thank you for introducing yourself. I have not been as far south as Merida but it has a reputation of being a city both beautiful and friendly. I am in the city of Colima about half way between the Volcan de Fuego and the Pacific Ocean. I like it very much. It is not a "tourist" city and i think that is what attracted me to this locale. I was in Guadalajara for 5 years to begin with but after that time the city started to fill up with people moving from Mexico City and besides it is soooo cold there! When i started my garden in Colima, I was so lonely to speak with gardeners at on-line forums because i don't know what your experience has been, but my experience tells me gardening is not part of the culture here and is actually looked upon with some disgust Rolling my eyes. . Now i see that interest is increasing in the young people in their 20's. This interest is now showing up at the Mercadolibre. I do know one Mexicano in Guanajuato (a young man in his 20s) very much involved in growing native Mexican medicinal plants. That is the extent of my gardening community in Mexico...and now there is you. So this is especially welcome. I was at the DG site until recently when i moved to ATP which i am enjoying very much.

I would be interested to learn about your garden and some of your experiences. If you have the time (say no more than an hour a week) and interest, perhaps we can start a conversation in the Sandbox or via Tree mail or some other place that you prefer. Or perhaps we will just bump into each other at a forum from time to time.

I agree that ATP does a wonderful job of welcoming people. I started by submitting a photo to the database just because the database needed one. I was secretly thinking "maybe i will get a thumb" and was astonished with the avalanche of thumbs and acorns and comments. Really it was so nice and completely unexpected. Te envio saludos muy mexicanos, Beverly

Thank You! Both Dave and Karen (i misspell vitrsna sometimes too). No, No, Karen i would never be offended to land up in the Sandbox as long as you don't send any cats there too. I understand that people go to the Sandbox of their own accord (myself included) and sometimes as the result of divine intervention Hilarious! . I actually like it there and think it is a super clever idea all the way around. I participated in a thread there that was particularly fruitful i thought and i got to know a little bit about some of the people here and how they think about things...it was reassuring. So don't hesitate, it would consider it as being a free trip Smiling ...maybe i need to get one of those sandbox badges.

Welcome! An orphan no more Bonnie. And this is just one thread! Hope to be seeing you around. This is page 8 of 8 and we are so off topic it is hilarious. But no one seems to care much, so we just keep going.

Not off topic at all. It's about new members and inactive members and how we plan to engage them and get them involved. Looks like it's working just fine. Once we get to 'know' a new member, they are still part of the count but are no longer just a number on a chart.

Let's here it for the new guys and gals. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
