Just got home from an enjoyable evening. Some friends of a friend were having a casual cookout and games night and extended an invite to me. Awesome folks, and they garden and raise chickens, so we immediately hit it off. I showed up with a plate of triple chocolate brownies and bags of daffodils, crocus, and irises- that was a good call! LOL Their veggie garden is huge! They're on a 3 acre lot, and have a lot of it under cultivation.

Nice that you were out making new friends Neal.. Your triple chocolate brownies would probably go really nice with the vanilla ice cream I made yesterday.... good thing we got a country between us, because I'm beyond full!

Your brownies sound delish! I took a tray of chocolate and butterscotch chip bars to the party I went to. They turned out quite well too. Had a couple too many bottles of Corona though.

I have a yummy recipe for a cream cheese filled lemon cake. My daughter is a lemony girl but the chocolate brownies would appeal to my palate. Yes, it is a good thing to be states apart.

We've got some store-bought cookies in the house, otherwise the rest of the sugar goes to the hummingbird feeder. The birds are the biggest consumers of sugar at our hourse. We've got orioles, hummers, and house finches that use the feeder.

Usually I only do desserts for a get together, I have no resistance and don't keep them around much. Yesterday my baking buddy came over in the morning and we made a patriotic cake with berries on top. We've been on the search for the perfect, moist yellow cake recipe, and found one that was great for our cake- Hot Milk Cake from King Arthur Flour website. I've got way too much of that left in the fridge now!

At last nights gathering I found out there was going to also be berry triffle (and heard one of the hosts is a chocolate lover), so I decided on a chocolate alternative. I said the wrong name above, they were actually called Deep, Dark, Fudgy Brownies, also from the King Arthur flour recipe site.

I just got my oven replaced a couple of weeks ago after being without one for a while, so I'm enjoying baking again. Since we're having a strangely wet mild summer, I don't mind having the oven on.

We have a local company, Western Family, that has an ice cream called Bear Tracks. Dark chocolate ice cream, dark choco covered cashews, caramel swirl. Heaven.

I need to have some sugar porn with the ice cream and the brownies. Please cover the eyes of sensitive folks...
