Thanks for the results of your "experiments", Gigi. I just wondered. I have never heard of anyone air-layering a plumeria, but what do I know? Sticking tongue out

For Gigi:
Thank you for your welcome. Since I have several long branches on the plant I suppose I could cut them into several pieces. I have a question: In your experience, what would be the minimum and maximum lengths to cut? I will take pictures of the blooms soon so you could maybe identify.

I'm not Gigi Smiling but I would not cut anything less than 10 inches, especially if they are tipless cuts, since then you have to expect some shrinkage.

I agree with Hetty, but I draw the line at 12". IF you cut a long branch(es) into more than one section, be sure to mark the end that will be rooted. After a day or more of callusing, both ends will look the same. Ask me how I know. Sighing!

Beautiful Hetty! I love that Kaulanani.

Ken I like the Divine a lot because it is compact. My 3 year old Divine is only over 2 feet tall and has 49 tips, now with 14 inflos and more inflos on the way. It is like a mini tree that is also great host for my dendrobiums. I have not trimmed this one at all.

Lowes started carrying them so I bought 2 more. One I gave to my friend and the other one my husband gave it away (he thought it was duplicate) to someone who keeps calling it an orchid. Whistling

'Dwarf Pink Singapore' has been in existence for many years, it is a true dwarf with cute, small leaves. There are a few other old stalwarts that are very compact such as Penang Peach.

The Thai hybridizers, most specifically Jungle Jack, have recently been creating many smaller varieties that are perfect to be displayed in pots.

Check out http://www.junglejacksplumeria... Under 'Galleries' it will list compacts and miniatures.

What is the size of a miniature compared to a compact one?

I just wondered, since orchids (size) can be labeled as "standard", "semi-compact", "compact", "sub-compact", and "miniature". None of these terms (as far as I know) have specific criteria though. It is sort of a best-guess label.

Please excuse me, folks, I had no idea how varied plumerias are, and even have names! Here at home, plumerias are all over the place, especially the white. And one that has become popular and every other home has at least one, is what is referred to as "Tahitian Plumeria" (I will post a picture later.) Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into! I am now visualizing plumeria trees of all kinds of colors surrounding our property.
So, forgive me in advance for asking a lot of questions in future. Drooling
I am going to carry a knife in my car so that everytime I see a different plumeria I will ask the owner for a cutting.

Ask away, Kadie. That's the best way to learn. We all ask questions here. Thumbs up

You might want to keep heavy shears handy rather than the knife. Plumeria can be really tough to cut! Sticking tongue out
