No, snow left here. We have had snow showers off and on today. It is pretty to see falling thru the air and the sun shining brightly thru it.

Hi everyone, I'm Elizabeth. I am in Iowa City and have less than a quarter of an acre to garden on. I've known Diann several years and she lives only half an hour away but I still have not seen her gardens Whistling

I have about 135 hosta cultivars currently in the ground under the snow, about another 20 on order to arrive in May.

Here is a leaf on 'Fingerprint' that was especially beautiful last year.

Now that the snow is finally melting.. (slow but steady) I am having Gardener's anxiety about losing plants over this horrible long winter. We have been under a blanket for so long, and had below normal temps too. I know the snow does insulate, but there are still some spots in my yard where no sun reaches that have a couple feet piled up! It is kind of like glaciers, all hard and crusted. Yuck... I'm about ready to go out and scoop snow to disperse it. Then my neighbors will really wonder about me! Whistling

Kay - resist the urge to remove snow. You could still get some really cold weather and the snow will protect any confused plants that try to come up too early. Reest assured, your hostas will be better off WITH the protection.

Just added Gunther's Prize to my "needs" list.

I've been down in SW Fla for 3 weeks and it's COLD. I can't wait to get home to the 40;s, where it is supposed to be cold this time of the year.

It would be in your profile, but I can't give you specifics - I don't use one and don't display them, either in my preferences.

Chickadee, relax, your hostas will be fine as will most other perenials. Smiling All this snow is the best insulation for them. I agree with Ann, don't go out and remove snow. Nature will take care of things for you.

TCS, You'll love Gunther. He is a show stopper. I got mine from Dawn's Bloomer's in Independence Iowa. It has maintained its streaks perfectly. You can probably pay less for one from someone else and in some cases pay more, but I really can't stress how good of one got from Dawn's. Smiling I've got three of them now and the only one that is really worth a darn is the one I got from Art Jacobson at Dawn's Bloomers. Smiling

If there are spinoffs from this thread, would the moderators add a link
to the new cubits thread in thier tagline?

Thanks for the suggestion, Min. It's growing so fast over here it can be tricky finding things.

This is the Introduce yourself thread. If you click on the HOSTAS Cubit, you will get a personalized page of the things you choose to watch, and also a red "Yes" will come up on the individual forums in the list showing there is something new.

Also, after introductions, please start a thread in Chit Chat and it will keep the Intro thread short for new people to chime in. Thanks.

Hi everyone. I'm Gary. DW (Kit) and I moved into our present home about 5 years ago. We brought about 30 hostas with us from the old house. Shortly after moving here the hostaphobia struck us and we have been feverously trying to keep up ever since. We currently have 625 cultivars as well as a couple grass gardens , lilies, day lilies, iris, coneflowers, and about anything else that our enablers talk us into. It is our dream that we won't need to mow our .6 acre lot some day. This year we want to put up another shade structure to house the many baby hostas we have grown from seed. This is a pic of the first structure we put up almost 3 years ago.
