Well, having had temperatures more like the end of May than beginning of July for 2 weeks mid-April we are now back to night temperatures just a few degrees above freezing and day temperatures of around 50F max with a cold wind! We eventually got some rain (and hail!) and everything is growing like crazy. I have scapes on loads of daylilies, never seen so many this early! Usually I just have a few, Lilioasphodelus and maybe Egyptian Queen but even the mid-seasons seem to be putting them out. Hope the gall midge don't get them Smiling

[quote="rocklady"]I am leery of bees since I was attacked by them after raking and uncovering their "home" when we first moved here. I fight the urge to swat at them but I know if I do, it will make things worse. That was one scary afternoon and evening for us.

Do the Africanized bees live in the ground? I thought only the yellow jackets lived in the ground.

@coboro This was 20 years ago and they were bumblebees. They were very mad at me and the day after they were still attacking the rake I dropped when I ran for the house. Thumbs down

I hate bumblebees. I got it from them 2 summers ago. They went after me every time I went to pick tomatoes. They had a nest under the foundation of my garage, which is right next to my tomato bed.

It got up to 94F yesterday according to official reports. They are calling for a high of 93F today. It is sunny, very little wind.

I've come to the conclusion now that DH has mowed over all of my daylilies (3) that the drought didn't kill. So long 'Rocket City' and 'Route 66'. DH is a great guy but he doesn't recognize weeds from legitimate plants. I have daylilies in pots but they don't have any scapes on them. I don't know if they should by this time of year.

Kelli,
I'm north of you but very few of my daylilies (all in pots) have scapes and they are just forming.

Got up to 67 today and I was able to work in the yard even though I have come down with a cold. I figured that being out in the good weather and sunshine would not make it any worse.

Today was a good day. I started out in the sunroom because it was really chilly this morning. I finished my hanging baskets, potted the hostas I forgot and left on the wall last week. I soaked them in water and revived them. Then I moved outside and planted the sedum various places. The rest of the morning I puttered.
