@Top I certainly made some nice progress with a tiniest Etched Salmon divisions, but there always was an existing eye and some root system for it to mature.

That's going to be rewarding when you baby them into full sized plants! I've got about a dozen little project plants where I decided that they needed to be bagged and then get max care. I even potted some lilacs that I worried would not get very well established before dormancy.

I am reposing from Prairie Peony Society on Facebook:
Adventitious Root Peonies:
Part 2
Further to Part 1 (yesterday), and how you might duplicate peonies for yourself or for friends, here is a primary list of peonies that have a reasonably good chance of propagation from adventitious roots:
Abalone Pearl*, Angelo Cobb Freeborn**, Ann Berry Cousins**, Carina*, Cherry Charm**, Cherry Ruffles**, Christina*, Command Performance**, Coral 'n Gold*, Coral Charm*, Coral Supreme*, Coral Fay**, Coral Sunset*, Cytherea*, Edgar Jessup**, Eliza Lundy**, Fairy Princess**, Faithful Dream**, Flame*, Good Cheer*, Joker**, Little Rhyme*, Lovely Rose**, Lorelei**, Ludovica**, Many Happy Returns*, May Treat*, Nathalie**, P. aientina**, P. hybrida (intermedia)**, P. mollis (officinallis variant)*, P. officinalis*, P. officinalis 'humulis'*, P. officinalis 'Plena' complex**, P. peregrina 'Otto Froebel'**, Paladin*, Paula Fay*, Pink Hawaiian Coral*, Postillion**, Raspberry Charm*, Red Red Rose**, Red Windflower**, Rose Garland**, Rose Heart**, Royal Tot*, Salmon Glow**, Thumbelina**, Tropicana*, Viking Valor*
*= highly successful, **= moderately successful
Note: List provided by Nate Bremer, 28 January 2021.
You will note that almost all of the coral-colored peonies and many of the raspberry colored peonies seem to have it in their genes to produce adventitious roots. This comes from their common coral ancestor, Peregrina.
See Part 3 (tomorrow) for other peony names with adventitious root possibilities.

Adventitious Root Peonies:
Part 3 (of a four-part series)
As mentioned yesterday, some peonies can be successfully regenerated by using an adventitious root without "eyes". However, the adventitious root method of planting sometimes requires waiting several more years to establish a peony (Macfarlane, 2018, p. 110).
Other peonies listed in the book "Peonies" by Allen Rogers (1995, 2004, p. 120) with adventitious roots, but growing experience (by C. Adelman and/or N. Bremer, 2021) showed that they had a low, unknown or no success rate:
Athena***, Birthday****, Blaze, Burning Bright, Claudia, Constance Spry, Early Scout***, Ellen Cowley, Eventide, Golden Glow, Laddie****, Laura Magnuson, Legion of Honor, Lustrous, Mid May, Nosegay****, Nova****, Prairie Moon***, Red Glory, Roselette***/****, Skylark, Sunlight
*** = no success, **** = low success, unmarked others = no growing experience
Tomorrow, Part Four of Adventious Root Peonies will discuss three propagation methods.
Roselette from the list above is pictured below.

I moved Nova 3 years ago, noticed this spring that there was peony foliage in that old spot so probably can say Nova grew from a small piece of root with no eye for me unless I just happened to get a seed at that exact spot. Was tiny, probably won't bloom this year to confirm.

Karen sent me Nova from an adventitious root (Karen correct me if I am wrong). It had the first flower last summer.

Yes, that was from an adventitious root. In the place that I dug that root for you Anya, there grows another NOva from an adventitious root. Now I have another one. Anyone is interested in this Nova, I can send it next fall.

I have one Command Performance that I bought from Hollingsworth, it never came up last year, I dug it and moved to another spot in my garden. Let's hope because of its adventitious tendency, I will see it again this year. Otherwise I probably said goodbye to it already.

I notice in all this discussion on adventitious buds/roots that no-one has mentioned the fact that some peonies run - sometimes quite some distance - so if the main plant is removed perhaps it is some of these runners that are noticed. A vigorous runner in my garden is tenuifolia Rubra, followed by Ellen Cowley and Nosegay. As I only move peonies when their area becomes too shady, I always try and leave the roots I break where they were so I remember better when any surprise shoots appear! Certainly many of the corals have become cut-and-come-again plants here Hilarious!

Valerie..by runners do you mean they send up new plants far from the original?

I am really excited to see if I can get a Coral Sunset division or root this year..it is what got me into peonies!

Yes - the p. tenuifolia in particular 'runs' to about 4.5 feet from the parent plant, in most directions. For many reasons I have not dug any shoots to discover how they are getting those distances Hilarious!

Lilac, if allowed to sucker, will form an increasingly larger empty core. I've seen deer bed-down inside the empty center spot. Of course it takes decades to develop.

Top...those suckers are pulled out quick...I don't have that room in that spot...my Grandmother's lilac did not sucker...but she never watered it either.

My Hot Pink rose scented peony has very adventitious roots from less that 1 1/2 inches!! I am going to have 6 or so plants...not sure about blooms though.

Just a note here on lilac suckers - not all lilacs sucker. But I'm not going to start a lilac conversation in the peony forum Hilarious!

I planted 5 or 6 blind root pieces of 'Diana Parks' last fall. I decided to recover one - it has grown feeder roots and is expanding. No sign of an eye yet. I re-buried it and hopefully didn't set it back very much.
