Coming back from my rental property I brought back a handful of broken roots of the peony I was trying to grow there - Etched Salmon. Somehow it was destroyed ( not only this one as they have 3 small kids ) and eventually I will find out in a few years time if ES can grow from root cuttings. Only one piece had a super tiny eye ( less than an inch itself ) and all others are just 1-2 inches pieces with diameter of 1/3 of a pencil. The big unknown.
My advice - do not keep any sentimental attachment to the rental property, even the best tenants do not maintain it up to your standards.
My attempt to make a nice patch for them to enjoy failed miserably - out of 5 or 6 ES and 5 irises and 4 geranium Rozanne only 2 peonies barely surviving ( some newly grown foliage ripped on the ground), 1 2-inch iris foliage and last Rozanne. Oh, well, nothing to add.
I planted 7 new peonies in the enclosed with chicken wire area ( was growing veggies there in the past ) and hope it will not be decimated.

Oh that's sad Alex. Glad you were able to rescue some!

I was reading somewhere that some people put the blind roots in plastic bags with peat moss or wood chips until they see eyes develop. I think they were doing this on varieties known to be adventitious. They just kept them in a dark, warm place and checked on them. Once they saw sprouts on the roots they planted them out.

Alex, so sorry they did not take care of your plants. It is really hard with small children. When my boys were small 2&3, I tried to keep a lemon and orange tree watered with drip, my boys loved pulling it out and running it as a river. They also gathered leaves, flowers and etc. for "salad." Yes, I worked with them on what they could use and what to leave alone, but they did not always remember or got caught in the moment. I did leave the yard better than I got it, but it wasn't easy.
I sure hope your ES recovers.

Interesting, it looks like I have a tiny adventitious root from either Etched Salmon or Command Performance,

I ended up giving up on my 'Diana Parks' project - only 2 roots made it this far and they had no sign of an eye or really even growth. They just seemed to soak up ambient water and keep on doing nothing.

I also gave up on a similar project some time ago. Does not worth it the time and effort.

I think Diana Parks maybe a difficult peony, I bought 3 roots since I bought everything in 3 from Gold City, yet I only have one tiny one, not even a flower yet.

Diana Parks flourished in dry CO in a raised bed, might be one that needs a really dry spot. I haven't noticed it at all in AL, think it's down in the peony black hole I'm calling the weed bed.

My peony bed where all my Gold City peonies are planted is dry. Maybe this bed isn't good, but I did move 5 roots to the shade and they seem to be surviving.
