Red Orchid is great, especially for such an early one in that color.

Another "red" I like is Red At Last, an SDB, but the substance leaves a lot to be desired.

Is it the pointy shape of the falls that you don't like Arlyn?

I like red at last for rare red color that early in the spring. It seems to be fragile here and does not have staying power during spring winds and rains. However I will keep it and hope it clumps nicely.

Bonnie - I think that answers my question to Arlyn. If it doesn't hold up in rain, that is substance less to be desired. Sure is a pretty red though.

OK -- I've got something, an historic no doubt, that I would venture to guess that no one here has. This was given to me by a friend, who brought me several Irises from the garden of a deceased mutual friend. I have no way of asking what it is, or where it came from, or when. Total mystery.

That's lovely! What makes a historic iris? I see some are from the 80s. Smiling

When the American Iris Society was formed in 1920, they decided that any iris that was introduced 30 years ago would be labelled as a "Historic" iris. This "rule" slides forward every year such that there is always a new years worth of introductions being added to the list. Thus, an iris hybridized in 1920 and a iris hybridized in 1980 are both considered "Historic" even though they ma be VERY different is form/size/substance ect.
