Last Epi to open 'Good as Gold', Phygelius aequalis 'Sani Pass', and Penstemon which is really a dark burgandy that I couldn't capture on my camera.I don't have the tag, but I think it's called 'Black Bird'

Lovely epis! I am waiting for batch two of mine if they can make it!

This May is unseasonably cooler..love it! Extends the blooming period a little longer with cool and sunny conditions. Just so windy though.

Lots of Epis require lots of trees...or a large shade structure. Mine suffer from being crowded in the space I have. Of course that didn't stop me from buying a new cutting at the Spring Garden Show. They only bloom for a short time, once a year, but they're so worth it....even if I'm the only one that ever sees them. Big Grin

Years ago I was intending to collect epis...until I realized that no one was building me a place to hang them all from.....

and then by the time I had a big shadehouse that would work very well, I was too involved in other things.

We got the tree shade..it is the heat when it comes early that really is torture. Thankfully we are running 10 to 20 degrees cooler right now and they say for the rest of the week too! Hooray!

I also had and epiphyllum 'Pierrette', a claret cup cactus, and an echinopsis 'Fire Chief' bloom while I was on vacation and they are done now. I need to remember to go out in the afternoon and get a picture of Arizona rainbow cactus. The flowers don't open until they've been in full sun.

These make bushes...3-4 feet, as I recall, need to double check on that...unless Sue pipes in first. Mine are young but spurting up pretty quickly...I will have seeds from this one at least if you want some a bit later. I've planted 11, I think...in the front border and in the back border also....
