I agree no chicks in the garden. As for slugs I use coffee grinds, ground up egg shells and food grade diatomaceous powder and sprinkle it all around my plants. I also hand pick them early in the morning and late evening. I just use a pair of scissors and snip them.
I did not plant any Eggplant this year as I have no room having gone way overboard on the number of tomato plants that I put in. So my neighbor was just over here and she is not happy at all about the lack of Eggplants. Maybe next year I will have them back but this year I am not setting up more pots to grow them.
I have been watering all my new veggie plants. I have too until they get much larger and well established.
On the Eggplants I found that I much prefer to grow the productive smaller Asian Types rather than those that look like the big ones you find in the Supermarket. But I didn't plant either this year. However I did plant a lot of summer squash varieties.

Community Garden box. Very good chance they will give me a second one, but don't know when. Still have tons of seedlings!
This stream runs along side the garden. It connects Freshwater pond and the boat launch. See if you can find the duck!

So I was out walking the garden and admiring all the tomato plants. Especially the ones that have been blooming already. Most of my varieties are blooming or just about to pop open lots of blooms as you can see all the buds. Really excited about tomato season this year. But I say that every year.
I hope the tomato blooms set fruit fast. I can't wait for tomato season! I know that each year I go look at the green tomatoes waiting for them to turn ripe for what feels like a very long time.
Rita, everything looks so neat......smart to mulch all the plants....I bought black cloth which I'll try to cut & put around the plants today......Jumper, smart starting plants in the greenhouse.....you'll have beans in a few weeks.....
took the greenhouse down today, not needed until next year. It folds up for storage, I needed the garden realestate for things to go in the garden close to the house. It's warm enough I don't need to use it for hardening off.
