Another new one from Valley K Lily Ranch: Melissa Jane

I have been watching a couple fascinated stems on Lady Elaine for awhile. Today I tried to count the buds and both stems have over 45 buds. Not sure if they will all open. The stem is only fascinated a little for about the top 6" and not really flat like some are. You have to look closely to see a seam along the stem.

Interesting Susan!
My Lady Elaine was my first lily of the year yesterday but all the buds are a little misshapen. Plant looks healthy otherwise.

The first lily of the season always looks fantastically beautiful, no matter how deformed it may be!

If you would have a mind at peace, a heart that cannot harden, go find a door that opens wide upon a lovely garden.

Getting a ridiculously late start this year ~ and tooo much rain. I still have a couple raggedy peony and iris blooms going. That's just nuts for first week of June.

First Compass to bloom. I have a large clump of these growing in the neighbor's yard.

The neighbor's house is a rental and I got tired of looking at weeds growing along my driveway, so asked the owner if I could turn the area into a garden bed. I always have to warn new renters that they will probably see me weeding in their yard, but so far they don't complain. I put any extra iris, daylilies or lilies along that strip and also let cosmos reseed there. Better than weeds.

Yes it's on the smaller side stems are very short this year. Dry spring and its first year likely the reason.

Deer came by Saturday night and enjoyed some yummy lily buds. Sighing! Hope they do not come beck soon. They cleaned SB king of all its buds except one. Angry

I like the downfacing ones, Joe. I think White Butterflies is in the pipeline for release here in Australia. One of Judith's right? She recommended it for hybridising when she visited. I really hope it will be available soon. Hurray!

Deer damage is so exasperating! May luck have it so they don't return.

White Butterflies is beautiful. Good for hybridizing? That's great!

You know it's funny, when I first got into lilies I really didn't like Turks cap lilies at all but now I love them.

Yes Della, 'white butterflies' is a lily garden product.

Well as I left at 8 am this morning a doe was in the neighbors yard. And when I got back it was clear that she had been back. She is also enjoy my phlox and keeping it very well trimmed! I will not be seeing many lilies this year. Sighing! Grumbling

@Claudia, so very sorry about the deer. At least my moose only come in winter for the most part. They are pretty much gone by the time things are growing.

I lost Belladonna, Cond d'Or, and Tiramasu among others. All favorites and just beautiful last year. Judith only sold Tiramasu that one year. Haven't see it since. Will keep looking though. My lilies are far from blooming. My Siberian Iris have just started to bloom and the tulips and daffy's are on their way out. OH, no. I forgot. Fireplace Embers has been blooming its head off for a bout a week or so. A very short little lily.
