Adore the martagons, but I have killed too many to try them again. Moby seems to have no problems growing them here in Lincoln NE, but I have never had one live more than 2 years. Some old faithfuls are starting in.

Alberta Rose is so cute. It is too short for where I have it planted, but this is it's first year, so it may be taller next year.

Magnolia thinks this is Honey Pink. I'm still tracking down where it came from.

At one time I had many lilies, mostly trumpets and Asiatics... I still have them but the labels have disappeared and I discovered I can still enjoy them even if I don't know their names. And I love the fragrance of the trumpets. But it will be another month for lily bloom here, except for the martagons, which are just starting to bloom now. They are a special interest for me and I do keep track of their names! I find them to be very long-lived... I have lost very few. I have 36 named cultivars, and the first one for 2015 bloomed today!

'Maroon King' This is a new one, planted fall of 2013, and so first time I've seen it!

Above is a mature clump of the white species. The small stem with the pink flowers at the bottom of the photo is a self-seeded first bloom. I have no idea of its parentage, I had hoped it would be white since this is its 3rd year after appearing close to the white species, but no such luck!

Tiger Play is my only current bloomer. No pics yet but this is by far it's strongest growth and bloom, the two tallest stems measure 62" and 64". I'll add some pics this weekend. The tallest stem has only opened one flower but the overall plant has some nice color going on.

Arabian Night.and the White species martegons are wonderful. So are Freya and the tiny ones. Those are 2 tiny ones I don't have yet. Seem to be new ones each year.

First bloom on Jasper. Bred in 1940. I'm enjoying the older ones I ordered from Valley K lilies.

Susan, are the martagons difficult to grow? I really want to try some as I have a lot of shade. What is the average price for a bulb?

Happy Dance here!! I have a Forever Susan bloom open today! Hurray! This is small but I will take it. I moved a lot of the baby bulbs around last fall so not sure where I may have tucked it here & there. My deer seems to have not eaten anything new the last 2 nights even though she has been out here the last 2 evenings. I can't get too mad at her. She is a very small doe and looks very thin.

She probably won't bother too much from here on out. Its the little baby bunnies that will be eating the leaves as high as they can reach from here on. That's been my experience with deer anyway--once they get over that initial taste for lilies, they go on to other favorable brushy type green browse. Smiling

Amazing and noteworthy. 75 years and never lost in time. Glad to know it continues on with you. Thumbs up Acorn
