It might be interesting to check whether those cultivars that can develop reddish colour on the bases of their fans in the early spring can also develop reddish-purplish colour on their pods.

There are a couple of speckled pods pictured as well, but nothing as red as DogsNDaylilies' picture. It's too bad there's only one pod, it would be interesting to see if it is common to all the pods on that plant or just a one-off.

Char said:You're welcome. Thought you might enjoy seeing the seedling threads from last year, too. The seedling threads are always popular to view...during bloom season and during the winter when nothing is blooming.
Char said: Mike Huben's Army of Darkness has dark scapes and buds, not sure if the pods are dark as well. You might find reading his page interesting so I'm including a link for you...

I just opened a pod yesterday from my first ever pollination and it had 14 seeds in it!!! Four of them were very small/shriveled, so I tossed them (although I probably should've just given them a chance just in case...)...but that still left me with 10 from a single pod! No wonder it took so long for the pod to brown/ripen! I couldn't even enter it into my PlantStep software because the software caps the seed count at a single digit, so I had to tell my system I only got 9 seeds from the pod, even though there were 10.
