And monitored so much better than the AIS site. I hope the people who are in charge continue to keep it so. Hats off to them!

Mary Ann, Sorry, I thought I already responded to your name of Cranberry Ice, ??? Not sue what happened. I don't remember the name Cranberry Ice. I don't think it is Cranberry Ice because of the wire edge. I think that's the term for the type of edge on Cranberry Ice.

Barb -- when you say *wire edge* on Cranberry Ice -- what are you referring to?

Wire edge is often a slight difference in color because there are fewer cells present.

I went back and looked at my picture -- I can see that shimmery edge -- don't remember seeing that in person. Yes -- a wire edge is the thinnest possible line along the outer edges of the falls or standards, or both. It's generally a contrasting color though -- not shimmery. I don't think?

Lucy -- once again you educate us -- I didn't know why it was a different color! Does that hold true if it's a darker color line?

I'm bad. I'm sorry I'm still learning the terminology. What I was seeing and not sure if I'm going to describe it correctly again, but on the edge of the standards, the edge looks lacy.

Pure genetics/ I don't know how to breed an 'Emma Cook' pattern. If I did I would try it with SDBs-I think it has the origin through amoenas, which I do work with.

Barb -- that edge is exactly what you said to describe it -- lacy. It's called lace. Irises are said to have lace when they have that finely serrated edge on the (usually) standards. Very often, those same Irises have ruffled petals on the falls. Hence the description -- *ruffles and lace*. Smiling

A *wire edge* is different -- it's a thin line of contrasting color on the edges of the standards or falls, or both.

Interestingly, an Iris can have a wire edge on either ruffled or laced petals!

Fun, huh?

ONe of the identifying factors with 'Indian Chief' is the wire edge in the standards. It's really visible on the front edge of this picture.

Lacy is used to describe the finely serrated edges, Teresa. Here's an example:

This is Morning Hymn. You can see that she is laced on both the standards and falls. She is also mildly ruffled.

Here is an example of an Iris that is ruffled, but not laced:
