Hi everyone, I'm Chris. Being here feels like coming home. I haven't been real active on DG lately (how did I end up so busy all the time?) but glad to see so many familiar names here.

I love lilies, peonies, clematis, coleus, oh heck, I'm just a plant addict thats happy to be here!

Hi Chris. Welcome. You'll fit right in here with the other plant addicts. How do we get so busy all the time? I'd sure like to know. I retired three years ago, and I'm busier now that ever.

I'm Rick, and thank you, all that invited me. I can thank the big snowstorm in the upper Midwest for my presence here now, as I had had a speaking engagement tonight that was canceled. I now have some time to explore this new site, and hours pasted quickly. It's not hard to imagine that my first post would be here. But I won't be leaving DG.

I live near Minneapolis, MN, where I grew up, and have always had a love for the natural plant world, but really, anything in the plant kingdom. Lilium species are my focus on this cubit, but I dabble with hybrids too, and fiddle with hybridizing.

I, too, started my lily fascination with a box of unknown lily bulblets when I was just a lad, given to me by a Cajun member of the (Minnesota) North Star Lily Society. I still have some of my favorites from back then. My other hobby that looms large in my life is all things language - how, what, why, where - and this includes Botanical Latin.

tggfisk (Bev), don't forget to post pics when your seedlings from my seed bloom! Ramona (Mainiac) has beat you to the punch (I mean pic): she recently dmailed me some resulting blooms, and I am so excited! As Pard has said too, it is so fun to see what comes of your own crosses.

Ticker, I'd like to mention here that NARGS has begun a Rock Garden related forum similar to SRGC, and I am one of the moderators, along with Todd. Feel free to pop in.

Glad you joined us Rick:) I'll certainly let you know what happens, but it may be a while...I'm jealous actually that Ramona has blooms from her seedlings. Mine are safely potted and out of the direct extreme cold that we've had here this year, but they are still small. I wouldn't think that they'd bloom this year, would you? Did she post the pics? I'd love to see them!

Bev, the seed Ramona grew was from Lilium davidii var. wilmottiae open pollinated. I am not sure when she started them, but I offered the seed in fall 2007 and 2009 (not 2008). So this past season would probably have been their second year. She dmailed me the pic. They weren't that spectacular, like Andrew's were, nevertheless they are my first babies come to fruition, so they do excite me.

Ok, I was wondering if it was me, lol! Certainly didn't want to be a bad liliy seedling parent. I wanted to wait until this spring to put them into the garden. That would be right, wouldn't it?

Rick, good to have you over here. What a cast of characters you have there. Not to mention the lovely photo next to your name love it.

Bev - When lily seedlings are big enough so they won't get lost in the garden, that's when I put them there.

Tc (I won't be spelling you name wrong anymore!), my benefactor for my bendy entourage says they are getting hard to find. I may have to settle for a troop instead of an army. Every one of them is a gift, except the one that started it all - Slim Santa. A story in itself.

I haven't been over to TheMeanKitty channel for quite a long time. Your avatar makes me think of that, LOL.

On my website I wanted to carry a whole line of Borglum irises. I didn't have one of his, Seneca Feather Dancer, and went to Borglums to get one, and they think they sold the last one. Belinda kindly offered me a piece of one she had, and sent me a whole huge clump. So now I have the complete line, and when I can will share it back with Borglums. Belinda is a sweet, sweet lady.
