On the subject of Gary Larson. He went to Washington State, where I did my graduate work in archaeology. We loved it that he often made fun of archaeologists and anthropologists in his cartoons. And slugs - which if you have been in the forests of WA you will know are monstrous!
Anyway, when I went to Antarctica, Gary and his wife (an archaeologist btw!) were also part of our group (there were about 100 people in all). It was a thrill to meet him and discuss various professors we both had had, etc. He called me "one of those people" in reference to my working with bones as his wife works with pottery shards. He drew cartoons of some of our adventures, which unfortunately will stay unpublished. Maybe that is a good thing??!!
