This is a Burning Bush Hedge, stunning color in fall but only for about 2 weeks. Also it has berries. I took this picture for a local nursery, if you post a picture of fall color on Facebook you get a free pansy. I posted about four but never drove out there for the pansy, too much gas for one pansy. Sad

My Nandinas have good color this winter. So does the young Golden Euonymous, but the photo is lousy.

I thought the photo was fine, serves the purpose. Green Grin! I just wish I had some good zoom so I could take pictures of birds. I just can't get close enough with this camera. Crying

Much, much better. I really like to see those especially this time of the year. Lovey dubby
I need to see how much shade it will put up with, because I need something for the corner of the porch, which has been closed in and this one spot is blocked from all sun but I really wanted some more things for winter interest. I dug up a lot of stuff in the early fall to make room for some Hostas and now I regret it, I should have just put everything in pots. SMH Grumbling

I bought a Golden Euonymous on clearance for $2.00 in 2010. When I removed it from its pot to plant it I found three stems. So being ever the optimistic and daring type Hilarious! I split that baby up into three plants. They settled in okay, but didn't gain much top growth last year. I'm hoping that they take off this year...they do look lovely this time of year.

Pieris is another shrub that looks very festive right now....all reds and deep greens. Lovey dubby

I have a Wate's Gold pine & a Gold Hillside Creeper pine tree that are awesome for winter color. They both turn brilliant yellow in the winter if it gets cold enough (like 20* and lower). I'll take pictures of mine soon & post.

Thanks Skiekitty and chelle and Tee, Great information. I will write these down and look them up, hopefully I will be able to decide of something. Pictures would be great. Green Grin!
I forgot I have a nice gold evergreen, but its out back because it needs full sun to be golden.

Your lucky to be able to go to a nursery at this time of year. Almost all the ones here close for the winter.

Very beautiful spring color! Besides the 'Spring bouquet' I have 'Shasta doublefile' viburnum, Hopefully I can get some pics in spring.

Bob I was happy to get some pics and bulbs, but for the most part I do most of my shopping online, where else can you hit 10 stores in one hour? Hilarious!

Not much at the nursery today but sure fun to look. They were getting some nice conifers. The utility company cut trees from the powerline this fall and gave me some plant vouchers, so was looking into smaller trees to screen us from the road.
Any of you recommend a good book on evergreens. I know 0 other than the cedars and natives that live around here and they grow tooo big. In no time they will be in the wires again. I would like some for winter interest.

VR, your Golden Cypress is pretty. How big does that get?
Monrovia has a new bright green cedar(I think) that I would like to have. I have to wright names down or I just forget. Also saw a "Niagara falls" weeping white cedar ( not sure on that name) it was nice too.

I really need to read about this first.
Going to the Northwest Flower and garden show the 9. May get some ideas and they have a good book booth as well.
Any way love the pictures!

There are a lot of evergreens that are not Conifers, a conifer just bears cones, that is where the name comes from. Here is a link for Conifers.

http://www.backyardnature.net/...

My Golden Mop only gets about 5-6 feet tall and it is a slow grower. I have some Arborvitaes 'Emerald Green' they get 8-12 feet tall and are beautiful. Also emerald green is the only one you can prune, that is why I picked it, I got one on each side of the front steps and at the corner of the house. I did not have any luck with the Alberta Spruce (very slow). I wanted something I could put lights on at Christmas. There are other Arborvitaes that get taller, 'Thuja' and 'Green Giant'.

HOPE THIS HELPS.
