Well, out of 9 bulbs, only one is showing the flower buds...all the others are still in their leafy vegetative growth state..and I am glad this one bulb is showing something coz that side of the garden only gets part sun/part shade...nevertheless happy to make them survive

I wonder if they have to get as big as the spider lily (hymenocallis) bulbs. Those bloom every year for me, but the bulbs are very large. Maybe I'll try feeding mine with fert high in phosphorus.

You're right. It is called that. But the one that I'm referring to is Hymenocallis occidentalis it's flower is a little more spider(ry) looking and is often called spider lily as well.

Oh, now I'm jealous. I just found another group in the ground that I'd forgotten about. Actually I thought that I had moved it. Anyway, its only now putting out leaves. There's a confederate rose nearby. Maybe it's shading it too much. That group just sits there doing nothing. I don't even think that it multiplies much. 'll move it in the fall after I find a place for it.

Thanks Charleen and Deebie
I had to put a gro thru plant support on the other container, leaves and bloom stalks getting so tall..we have some strong winds again today..just in time for those plant supports!! Hopefully the one already in bloom will not be tattered by the strong winds!

Photo today 23May, I like seeing the outer rim of the petals fold down a bit like a collar. Got to get the photos in posterity..we got strong winds advisory..hoping the bloom stalks will hold!

I have just uploaded it..just a bit confused if I classified it correctly in the database...as I do not see ismene festalis..so I put it in the Hymenocallis x festalis for now.

I notice these plants are very thirsty ones! Really loves getting daily watering..seems to help it battle the strong winds by making the stalk stand up a bit sturdier..but I do have to give it a reinforcing long stake, so lovely blooms..I now see much better the similarities with amaryllids, the way it makes that cluster of blooms.

One cluster of 6 blooms is quite full, only one more to bloom..so nice to see this plant very active and vibrant....and really very thirsty once awake and blooming. I just love seeing a daily bumblebee coming by to enjoy the pollen with gusto
A closer look of the throat:
The bumblebee always comes by early in the morning:
Too bad, the blooms last only at the most over a week..I guess I got too spoiled with my orchids that blooms for several months
