I certainly think they're pretty. I hope I can keep mine alive, and that they multiply.

I know I cannot leave mine outside. I have it in a pot so I know it will live. I was just sad it was not fragrant. I thought they were fragrant. But the flower is different. I guess I will have to console myself with the beauty without fragrance. The Tuberose will kick out the fragrance later.

Mine is still growing leaves also. I assume it is doing what other bulbs do is gain strength and blooming food through the leaves so it blooms successfully next year.

I have trimmed the leaves of my Hymenocallis last tuesday, to let it rest ..but yesterday, I saw it does not want to rest yet..new leaf growth forming again. Typically that leftover portion should have dried out..oh well..leaving it be...just interesting how persistent it is to do some more growing.

Hurray! Hurray!

My leaves are still green so I have not cut them. I let the bulb get as much energy as possible for heavy bloom the following year. I never cut leaves off of bulbs until they turn brown.

I think I need to cut mine back. The oldest pair of leaves are rotting away and even the whole stem structure feels soft and goo-ie :S

I had to cut mine, my Narcissus is as usual awake at this time of the year, needs to get its chance to bloom this Nov. The other container has my Kniphofia sarmentosa already awake too, so have to give them their turn so they can prepare their winter blooms. Smiling

I don't understand. If you left the leaves were they to thick for the sun to reach them? In the Spring when my bulbs are in the garden I have bushes growing up around them and they still come up and bloom.

My garden is in an awkward position so that side of my garden gets more shade in the afternoon, from our city trees. But it does get a good slice of morning sun at least from about 10am to 2pm. Normally the city trees should have continued on shedding their leaves by now, so more sun can come in, but they are holding on. Keeping the Hymenocallis leaves there at this time will further shade the growing narcisccus, so it will just hamper flower growth. Besides it is just the grasshopper happy right now, it keeps making a meal of my hymenocallis leaves!

So I've cut mine back and put them in the attic. As you can see they were in pretty bad shape. My other species are still looking good though despite the really cold nights near freezing...

We went down to 28F one night and most nights have been from 40 to 50s so mine still look good. I have a couple other bulbs in the pot.....Armaryllis, and Calla Lily. The temps should stay in the 40s and 30s probably about Dec I will put them on the laundry room until March then bring them into the Sunroom. The Armaylis will bloom first then the IF and later the Calla Lily.

I am delaying a bit moving my other plants, as long as the city trees are bearing it, I guess I should be good. Still fully leafed here, only gradual leaf drop so far.
