I have another new seedling that has yet to bloom for the very first time. This is an interesting cross ....

TTT23 (God Save the Queen x Stenciled Infusion). Here is a photo of the first bud that will likely bloom this weekend:

So what do you think the blooms from this cross will look like?

I'm going to guess it will look a lot like GSTQ only perhaps darker edging on it. fun

I think it will have a lighter pinkish background colour with a deep lavender eyezone and edge.

Here's the interesting thing about God Save the Queen .....

Many of the photos in the Plant Database show a dark lavender bloom:


So I am not quite sure how that one will present itself in a cross. Is the darker maroon color the morning color and the lavender color the afternoon color? Or reversed?

I hope it blooms tomorrow. The bud looks pretty close to popping open.

That is a great teaser picture of that seedling. One can almost see the color coming through.

I think it will be a dark pink with a darker pink eye. And I saw several pictures of God Save the Queen that looked like it has teeth, even though it is not registered with that in the description. BUT, I think this seedling will have teeth. Wishful thinking, I guess, lol!

Well ....

This was a complete surprise bloom! And because of what it looks like, I am suspecting that it might have been a bee pod or a mislabeled seed. I obtained the seed from a LA win back in 2016. I feel like I hit the seedling jackpot!!! This bloom is gorgeous and a total surprise!

This seedling was sowed in 2017. This is it's first bloom. It has multiplied from 1 to 3 fans. And it is growing in a container.

This seedling would VERY likely have come from a patterned pollen parent. No idea which one though, but I am NOT complaining one bit!

I have to agree with Sue, it's going to look a lot like GSTQ. I do think the throat might be greener and the color of the eye slightly different. Hopefully it will be stenciled too!

That is gorgeous.

It looks a lot like Cobalt Rings, which was right beside God Save the Queen in my garden. The coloring looks like GSTQ. But since Stenciled Infusion has a seedling listed as one parent and coming from Floyd Cove Nursery, it probably has many patterns in it's parentage. She got the seeds from me.

Dot - THANK YOU for posting! I was hoping you would and give me your prediction on what you think could possibly be the seedling's pollen parent if it is not Stenciled Infusion! I got several seeds from you, so if those seeds all came from the same pod, this one might have siblings! And THANK YOU for the seeds!

We shall see. I have 2 other sibling seedlings of this same cross that have yet to produce scapes, but that is not to say that they won't this year. It is still early in the season.

Dot - I have a question. Does your GSTQ look lavender/purple color all the time or is that a morning or afternoon color on the blooms?

The more I look at the two possible pollen parents, the more I am leaning towards Cobalt Rings. Sure looks a lot like it from my perspective. But the thing that is throwing me off is the lack of thick ruffling along the edge of the petals. It should have a much more pronounced ruffling. Instead, it looks more like the thin ruffle on Stenciled Infusion. So .... still a mystery?

Definitely Cobalt Rings! I have seedlings with at least one ruffled parent (probably both) and neither kid has much ruffling. One did however inherit the glitter edge.

Gorgeous seedling by the way! I typically don't like patterns but that one has very nice colors.

That is a morning picture of GSTQ, it usually is more red violet I think.

Elena - Thanks for the info about the ruffled edge. With you stating that, the pollen parent must be Cobalt Rings.

Dot - Thanks for trying to explain the purple color in your photos. Your photos aren't the only ones that showed purple. In the Plant Database, there were a few other photos of that color of bloom. I am also wondering if that color might show if the temps are cooler? It has been very warm here and I did not see the purple color at all this morning or this afternoon. It is more of a deeper maroon pink. My photos don't quite capture the color correctly.
