Beautiful bloom. Mine bloomed for the first time but no fruit.

I got up midnight for these shots, the bloom was huge and to me...pretty.

No Gordon, the picture is from my side of the fence. There are lots of blooms and fruit on my neighbor's side as well. Unfortunately, I don't think they ever go back there so they probably fall off, perhaps they are feeding the birds and iguanas.

I can't imagine why they get so little fruit on St Croix unless there are no pollinators on the island. I assume that the bats are one of the pollinators here and perhaps the large luna moths that are also nocturnal. Sorry you are out of sorts Melissa but I hope you come back, sometimes things seem to be a bigger problem than they are.

mmmm if they need bats ... I'm tooo late ... they have sanatized alot of the available space for them... and I see them about less often... maybe a few moths are still about.... Nnot that I have flowers to worry about though...
OH Melissa... I know what you mean... I'd rather read a nothing note than get a thumb.. you give me a look at tropical gardening ... which interests me a bunch.. that we need you for ...
.she's not aware of it though... perhaps till now... I have a personal challenge to see if I can get a flower before Sandi... she has a year or so on me with her plants... but I saw pictues out of asia where they had them blooming as little plants..just a little game.. to get me going... and I'll feed and work them as much as I can... rather than mostly neglectiong them... I don't want be be another year or two down the road and still have no flowers...
Melissa... I'm not wild about the fruit either ... can't imagine what the draw is... I'll try it with the lemon and a giant pile of sugar... the lovely White vegetable... I just want to have them do it

Okay Gordon, I'll take that challenge! I already feel you'll win, though. Our back garden has turned shady. Not great for tropicals of any sort anymore. I will start plotting where I can have full sun. I may have to "trim" a tree. Whistling

I don't think sugar is necessary or lime for that matter. They are sweet but not super sweet and have a little bit of tartness as well, they are really, really refreshing on a hot day. I put them in the refrigerator and then just eat them with a spoon. Perhaps the ones up north have traveled too far or been picked before they were ripe?

I just love the texture of the fruit. I just could eat them all day.

yes, I love the crunch too. They make a pitaya water drink here that is very good and they are fantastic in fruit salad.

@Lacrafty222 this is a really old thread, you might get a better response if you start a new one in the Cactus and Succulents forum.

Or if you can tell me a little more about your setup and your climate, I can try to give my own best answer.

Welcome!
