Found a scape on Vernal Tutone which is an Extra Early. Last year the FFO was May 16th. This was planted in this bed in the Spring of 2009.

I am in Huntsville AL in zone 7b. They were saying at our last Club meeting that we are about 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule this year. We shall see.

Sorry for the confusion, just to be clear, that was last years FFO, but I hope to have an equally pretty one this go around.

I have about 30 EE daylilies, so I hope to have some with flowers this May. Peak bloom for me is usually around mid June.

Betty,

I love bicolors too.

Rita,

I can't wait to see what else has scapes. I need to spray soon. Last year I had thrip damage on the buds/blooms. Don't want that to happen again.

I have aphids on my daylilies for the first time this year. Not on all of them but on many. I just finished using the systemic insect killer. I figgure that will take care of them.

Holy cow I just found a scape on Buddy Hudson! Blinking It is a rebloom scape from last fall but still what a surprise. The overnight lows the last 3 nights were 37 ,31, & 36! I'm really glad I got that as a bonus from Maryott last fall. Hurray!

I cheated today. I had my first bloom on Nancy's Quilt and I didn't take a picture because it was soooooo pitiful! The scape was badly damaged in the hail storm 2 weeks ago. Then it's been so cool for the last 3 days that the poor little thing couldn't open yesterday and finally made it today. I did grab the pollen and freeze it but other than that, I let it be. I'm hoping that it will rebloom for me. I love this daylily so much. I got it as a gift plant from Maryotts last Fall. Mayotts are still way up my list for being great. I'd say they are the best, but I bought some fantastic plants on the Lily Auction last Fall and I couldn't say that anyone of them are better than the other. They have all been great!!

I hope my next bloom will count as my first bloom of the season. I looked at some of the scapes today and I may have another one bloom that was damaged also, but hopefully it wasn't as bad as Nancy's Quilt. We will see in a few days.

Blessings to all, Mona

Wow, you guys with the extra early scapes. No daylily scapes here. I did find two tall bearded iris stalks and it is even early for them.

Found scapes yesterday on a species lily H. Middendorf. It was sold to me as Lemon Lily but it is more gold and flower shape is not right.

Was out today and am really bummed. I had one bloom yesterday, THE FIRST ONE OF THE SEASON, and I missed it! The worst part was that I was out in the garden yesterday and just did not see it. I was a few feet away from that bed, but it is around a curve and I just did not walk the few extra steps. Grrrr Grumbling

It was a seedling that bloomed last year for the first time and I was very excited. Probably not introduction worthy, but it was mine! It is really cute. It is a cross of Little Business, pollen parent unknown. It is not very tall, only about 12-14" and is small enough to be classified as a mini.

These are some of the pictures from last year. This year it is blooming much earlier. There is an other bud ready to bloom tomorrow. I will post a picture of that one.

Thanks. Leslie. I was certainly not expecting a bloom this early. Last year it did not bloom until the end of May!

I had a few bloom really early last year, but they were planted in the fall and I suspect the plants were a bit confused about the seasons. They might even have been left over scapes for the year before. I have heard that it can happen. Has anyone else heard that?

Sorry you missed your first bloom. I bet from now on you look all over the garden for any possible new blooms. It is awfully early for daylilies.
