No, 5 is not too many buds at all. Many roses will produce big sprays . Many even larger than that. Some people will snap off the center bud because it is larger and will bloom first. It's done for exhibition purposes so the others will grow together and all bloom at once. Otherwise just leave them to bloom on their own.
