Dennis, I've always used UPS ground for my orders from Palatine, even one year when Rachel strongly suggested that I switch to two-day service because the upstate New York shipping affiliates were snowed in by blizzards. I don't remember the actual number of days my packages were in transit, but I know it wasn't a long period of time -- maybe 5 or 6 days? I have never received damaged plants from Palatine.
