Months ago i bought a 4-pack of Rubrotinctum 'pork & beans' and a 4-pack of R. cv.'Aurora'.Usually by now the 'pork & beans' aren't green but bright red.We haven't had enough sun to turn them red though!! Sad This is the first time i've had any of the cv.'Aurora' so i'm not sure exactly what color they usually turn with a lot of sun. This is what they looked like after i planted them, the little pieces are from the other pot i over wintered and if yall remember they ended up very, very leggy.I just cut the tips off of some & placed them in this pot.The ones i bought last year were labeled R.'Brown Beans'. I was curious to see if there would be a difference in their color or if it was a nursery name. Thumb of 2013-07-01/jojoe/566189

We have had so much rain and me not being able to get out every day, they rotted at the soil, they had been in the pot long enough to be well established. They fell over & re-rooted in the pot. Here's a picture i recently took.

I also noticed one is blooming, something i've never seen before!! Hurray!

Jojoe, the self induced re-rooting pork and beans did good almost like they wanted to show you that they could take care of themselves...Lucky you! I love the Aurora beans too.

WOW Bev that is beautiful. I love the colors. I need to do something like that because I have so many little pots it is getting to be too much. In my weather you know I have to carry all those pots back into the house.

Life is my plants. What do you mean get a life. Rolling on the floor laughing

I went outside and grabbed some back to make my tree for my semp tree. I laid the coir mat to fill with soil for the semps and realized the soil was outside. It is soaking wet. I got in the car and brought a new dry bag. I did not want to drip through the house with the wet bag of soil. I am going to get at least one project done this week. They said it is not suppose to stop until Friday, maybe.

Okay that is my life this week I will go back and look at your planter some more.

Question Bev, I have a lot of the rosette sedum and mine do not have big heads. Do you think it is because I have let them stay in the small pots to long?

Very pretty Cinta! The plants in these photos don't look like sedum to me...waiting to hear what Bev replies. The first pot looks like a Jade plant with an aeonium "kiwi" (which doesn't get the large rosette typically) I tip my hat to you.

Cinta, I'm guessing but in first photo I see Aeonium 'Kiwi" and a darker aeonium and some jade? The variegated Kiwi looking plant doesn't get big heads. Some Aeoniums varieties have big heads and some have small heads. I didn't think the dark aeoniums get big heads but I put some in a bigger pot and they now look much bigger than when they were in smaller individual pots. (I placed 4 in pot next to big pot to show scale):

Your second picture look like a graptoveria or type of echeveria and again, some grow bigger rosettes than others, depending on the variety.

Pot size can be a factor on how large some plants can grow but most succulents don't have that big a root system and so a bigger pot can be more a problem to growth than a help. When shopping, and looking at a particular variety of succulent, I always scan all the pots and note what size the mature ones look like and what size the babies look like to get a general idea of how big the individual plants will be if I just buy one. Your 2nd photo of the nice mature rosettes of graptoverias pretty much illustrate the general size of what the smaller rosettes will grow to be.
Hope I answered your question?

Thank you Bev yes your answer was clear. I am doing a search for some big heads. I will continue to search. I have a good local nursery when I find something they will add to their order and I can buy it local. I really should not get any big ones because I am tired of dragging all these plants in every winter but it is a want right now. Sad

I will give away some of the little ones I have this Fall. I am sure there will be someone that will be willing to take them off my hands the colors are pretty.

Cinta, which kind of plants are you looking for that has big heads? Semps? Echeverias? Aeoniums? Graptoverias? Agave? Haworthias?
If it is semps, I remember a semp thread where people were giving diameters of some of their big semps.

Bev,

I want the big head Echeverias Aeoniums Graptoverias because these usually have the colors I like. I have three big Agave and the big head Aloe. I have already put in a order for another Sunburst. I killed my last one.
