Porkpal, that is the most common colorblindness in men - I have a friend who can't tell between brown and green so all the Olive green shades, and browns are obscure for him. I didn't know this until I was at their house one time and he came in with "wrong" color matching in his shirt/pants outfit - his wife said "Nope it ain't gonna work dear" then they told me he's colorblind! I think there are many people that have this and it just isn't talked about ! I tip my hat to you.

I think a lot of men have trouble seeing a straight line. I always want to adjust the paintings hanging in men's homes, even the homes of gay men, and men need all sorts of measuring tools and levels to put up a shelf, whereas a woman can do it just by sight.

Ah-ha! I retook the test and scores a 4! Interestingly my bad guesses were in a different range this time (?)

My father once bought himself a "brown" suit which turned out to be green. He usually let my mother shop for him. Suspecting that my architect husband was not as color-aware as he thought, I once paired his socks one brown, one olive green, and he wore them that way - all 6 pairs! On the other hand he can take a pen a draw a perfectly straight line free hand.

Porkpal, you have the same situation I have. My daughters carry the red-green deficiency gene from their father and from my father. If they have sons, they will be color blind. Years ago, I had horrible visual acuity. I finally went to Canada to get Lasik on my eyes (this was before we had it here) and the instant my eye was zapped, I was seeing colors I had never seen before! The doctor said I basically went from a 28 color vision to thousands. It was the most incredible thing. Lovey dubby

Cindi - WOW. I had never heard of Lasik having that kind of a side effect! I've thought about it, but I'm too chicken and glasses are a lot cheaper. Now if they could just install ultraviolet vision when they zapped...

Queen Elizabeth has a couple of nice big blooms today. It had some damage, but not as much as the rest. I didn't remove the partially stripped canes, so I guess it healed up on its own. Thumbs up

New Dawn's first cluster of the year. It's very vigorous, so no worries with this one.

Sorry, Greg. Here ya go. The thread "I Hate Knock Out Roses" in Roses forum ...midway down the page...

Mine is Madame Hardy. I'm surprised it bloomed this year since it was one that was clipped to the ground.

Cheers and now I'll keep my eyes open for Kleenex roses! haha

Season's-end update:

It was a fairly poor year for blooms here, although it appears that the rabbit damage really only affected the once-blooming roses. At this point, I think the lack of sufficient rainfall during the growing season is much more cause for concern than rabbit predation. I do plan to clean up around my climbers and get their lower canes wrapped for the winter, but I doubt I'll bother much with the shrub roses. Smiling

Chelle - I understand completely. Winter was slow in letting go here, so my season was very short... and then so very very dry everyone was stingy with their blooms. And when we finally *did* get rain, we got too much!! (http://cubits.org/bluegardens/... http://cubits.org/bluegardens/... ). Hopefully next year will be better.

That kind of rainfall is amazingly scary!

We're supposed to get some decent rain tomorrow, so I still haven't started the roses. Too busy digging out the drainage trench by the barn and repairing gutters out there, too. I know that once the moisture really gets going here we're likely to be wet almost continually until mid-December, and I don't want to be doing that stuff during that time! Mud gets heavy...and ladders perched in mud tend to topple. Whistling In the past I've had issues with ladder safety... Hilarious! ...funny now, but not so funny then.

FOUR inches of rain in the rain gauge this morning! WOOHOO!
The ponds are full, the trees are getting color, and the squirrels are keeping my dogs busy. .
