Hi, my nerve plant is very much dead or almost dead. I've tried it at levels of moisture, varying levels of sunlight, keeping it at one level or another for an extended amount of time to see if it works. I've tried almost everything, yet it's severely wilted and has leaf scorch. Any tips on how to save it, or, if I can't, what went wrong?

Do you have it outdoors?
They are very tricky to grow as a houseplant, requiring very high, constant humidity, like in a terrarium. Also are sensitive to strong, direct sunlight and will quickly suffer from leaf burn. Soil should be kept consistently moist.
I won't bother to grow one again, too finicky for my tastes.

By Arizona standards this is a swamp plant.
It's the only plant I have that's in a pot that doesn't drain well. I water it twice a week, and leave water in the saucer.
It's under a plant light, and does not go outdoors, even to the patio, in summer.
It is fussy.
So, as Sue said, if this doesn't grow I'd try something else.

I agree with all that has been said. Nerve plants do use a lot of water, and are not very forgiving if they run out. They are pretty difficult to revive.

Why they are still being sold is beyond me. Like Majesty Palms, they can be counted on to cause heartbreak and humiliation.

Probably one of the trickiest houseplants to grow successfully. If you don't have a terrarium I wouldn't even attempt it.

They sell, because they sell. And must be easy enough for a greenhouse to produce. Such markings. I also love the look of any ivy (Hedera helix) and will never ever spend money on one, same problem, guaranteed fail.

I cannot think of a good substitute plant for this look.
Plant it and they will come.

I agree with what others have said. Nerve Plant (Fittonia albivenis) is a Rainforest plant and loves moist, humid conditions. Even here in humid Florida, I've had difficulty keeping one alive for long unless it's in an enclosed terrarium. One year I put an almost dead potted Nerve Plant out in the yard beneath some shrubbery and forgot about it and months later discovered it was looking beautiful again. I'm not sure what eventually happened to it but it likely was killed during the winter when we had a cold night.
