Completely missed your post, Jo Ann!
The yellowing leaves look to me like a fungal disease infection rather than virus. More likely it is a botrytis type fungus than a bulb infection, but I rarely have leaf diseases on lilies, so I am not very experienced.

Yes Joe, all that variation from a single seed pod! Kwazy indeed! Who woulda thought? Really makes me wonder what the martagon parentage is for Super Tsing and Amelita. I don't think I'll ever know for sure, regarding contamination. The only other possible suitor would be Terrace City, which would have introduced L. hansonii into the picture, too. Any orange would had to have come from tsingtauense, but the combinations of characteristics in individual plants are quite inconclusive.

That one you liked was the most difficult to photograph to get a truer rendition. It's not a flash photo, but taken at a much lower exposure than normal. Even so, I still couldn't get it perfect: the nectaries are more greenish yellow.

I'm curious what your favorite vendor for new martagon bulbs might be.

Faraway Flowers sells martagon lilies on Facebook and her bulb quality is excellent. I'd choose Faraway Flowers.

The first martagon section bulb I ever bought, and still one of my favorites. Purchased as a 2 year old seedling labeled Lilium x marhan. It's likely that is incorrect, it is not at all like any other x marhan photo. It's just the cutest little thing, an more pink that the pics show.

Pretty, pretty, pretty!!!!

Rick, I wonder if the colour caption problem is something recurrent with Liliums. I have a L.a. (seems to be Black Out) that is a really dark brown, almost black. I took pictures at different times of the day and they showed up at different colours every time (7 m,pix camera). Then a friend visited me with his Nokia cell pone and was amazed by the flowers. When he took a picture with the over 40 megapixels camera of his cell pone, it came out gorgeous, but the flowers resulted like dark red vine.

The same has happened with other Lilies.

It's very true: the quality of light at different times of the day affect the color that digital cameras see. But that's not all. Although the number of pixels have not bearing on color, the camera's sensor, lens, filters (if any) and software do. I'm sure I could figure it out and change certain camera settings, if I had the time.....

Me too, Ursula. The more I mess with my camera, the worse it gets so I just leave it alone.

The automatic settings have come a long way. Most of the time, and even in close up mode, they do quite well. The biggest problem is when the photographer tries to get closer than the camera can focus.

Hi, I am mostly an iris person, but I have a few lilies. Two of my lilies had a few Scarlet Lily Beetles that I was able to pick off and crush. When I looked up the beetle, Wikipedia said martagons were delicious to them. Is this a big problem? I was avoiding martagons, so I will start planting some if the beetles are not a big issue.
