Green and graceful, Ursula. Really neat. Here's my last shot of Blc. Copper Queen with all flowers open. The first flower has mostly yellow petals now.

Couple of new bloomers for me today, my big NOID Cattleya popped all 4 flowers on one spike, and Gerberara Snow Ballet opened two flowers.
I am really enjoying my one big specimen sized orchid right now, but some time soon I'm going to have to take a baseball bat to that nice pot! When that happens I might have a nice division to trade you, Ken.

Love that Catt!!! Momma Gerberara has been blooming one or two spikes at a time , all looking toward the sun. Bless her little heart, she's the one I can rely on. All the others have bloomed poorly this year...short spikes with few flowers. That week of heat and wind in the spring probably had something to do with it. There are still a few that probably won't make it. Orchids just don't seem to like going from winter to summer and back on a weekly basis...nor do I. Oh well, the local growers have seized the opportunity, and we get an extra show in Aug.
I am completely blown away by all of y'alls plants seeming to be constantly in bloom! Makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong! Or maybe I'm not doing anything wrong...Maybe mine are just to young? Or maybe...
Anyway...I'm loving seeing all of these gorgeous blooms! with envy!
Tara, you are not doing anything wrong. If you want to have something blooming every day you simply have to collect/grow Orchids that bloom at different times of the year. It helps if you go to Orchid Show or visit Orchid nurseries at different times of the year and buy what's in bloom. Many on-line vendors will feature now-in-bloom Orchids on their front page, Santa Barbara Orchids comes to mind, but actually most do that!
And in addition you will find that some Orchids will bloom several times a year. ( Potinara Hoku Gem is one of them)
If you buy only Fall blooming Cattleyas, then your major "show" is in Fall…..
So, you simply need more Orchids!!
Not to diminish Jim's wonderful growing. I wish I could grow such beautiful Phals! And the Blooms on Fire are gorgeous, Elaine.
I knew it! A reason to go Orchid shopping! Thanks Ursula, you enabler you!
Actually, all of my plants do seem to be looking quite healthy and happy, putting out new roots, and leaf growth. I guess that I do need to learn about some that bloom at different times of the year. The Potinara that you mentioned is a beautiful little plant! Time for me to find some local orchid growers here, and do some learning, and shopping!

Be sure to come next time we meet for orchid shopping in Apopka, Tara! The selection is amazing and the prices are half or less what you pay at a show or fancy nursery.
That one I just posted above dependably blooms twice a year for me. Winter and summer, like clockwork. Once you get them acclimated, they can be real work horses.
Also, both Jim and Ursula have very large collections, hundreds of orchids and many different kinds so they naturally will have something in bloom all the time. I have a smaller collection, so I do have times when I go a month or two with nothing new in bloom. Nice thing about orchids, though, is that many of them bloom for a loonnngg time. Phals sometimes bloom for 2 or 3 months, and that Encyclia Green Hornet Jim showed above seems to be just about always in bloom. I bought one of those on Jim's recommendation years ago, and it's amazingly floriferous and smells wonderful. I just hardly ever post it because it would be a repeat.

Thank you, Elaine. Shopping in Apopka sounds like exactly what I need. After doing a little research today, I've found that Jax. does not have an abundance of Orchid growers at all! There is one lady in Green Cove Springs that I've met at our Riverside Arts Market. It's a Saturday event here. Artists, Musicians, Farmers, etc.
She seems to be about the only one in this area. Our Orchid Society has a local show/sale here in March each year. I went for the first time this past Mar., and that is where I found my Ludisia discolor.
Keep me posted on the next trip to Apopka! I'd love to meet you all...Pick your brains...And, of course, shop! I've ed over that Encyclia Green Hornet every time that pics have been posted...Love that!
with Ursula. The blooms on fire are gorgeous! What's it's name?
Elaine, that one is on fire! And gorgeous! And I think Tara definitely needs to join our Apopka trips (we are excellent enablers). But after it cools down; it's so hot I would melt in a greenhouse and I don't think anyone wants to mop up a Melanie puddle.
